So someone who justifies his addiction and is too weak to do something about it has the right to call anti-smokers assholes while he is ruining their health and makes them change cloth each night because it stinks like a pile of shit after sharing air with smokers?

When I was a kid and my parents were 30 I saw them having some trouble with breathing when going up some stairs. Even as a kid and only with that observation I knew I'd never smoke - why? Because I liked to play soccer when I was a kid, grasping for air like a fool while running after a ball wasn't the idea I had of having fun at it.

1) Parents must of been really unhealthy. Sorry, but when my dad was 30 he was very much able to do alot of running, lots of swimming etc while smoking 1-2 packs of 20 a day.

2) I love (still) how everyone suddenly has an opinion after it's been made illegal to do in public places. :)

When you think you've read the most stupid thing ever you come to here to get proven wrong.

Haven't you people been in school? Haven't you read any books? Have you parents not taught you anything?

And you talk about soccer and smoking in stadiums.

Maybe people smoke because the culture now is to wrap people up in cotton wool?

I smoke due to choice, I can stop whenever I want but I don't. Why? Because I enjoy smoking. If you come to England and go for a fag in the pub, there is more people outside then inside. No lie, I met someone I havent seen for 7 years outside smoking. Not to mention all the hot ladies that are stood outside trying to get a cig. Cig for a phonenumber is always good! :p

How can you be so fuckin ignorant seel?

One in three people get cancer now-a-days. ANYTHING which lowers that number is GOOD.

Smokers who complain make me laugh - you're all a joke =/

1 in 3 p[eople get cancer do they?

So your telling me a third of the UK smoke? I doubt this. Maybe the government should find out what is causing the OTHER cancers, like car emissions and phone masts, and stop going after those who choose to smoke.

I know I run the risk of cancer, but if i didnt smoke, I would have the same chances to get a cancer of some sort.

smoking in pubs was part of our culture imo. its all ive grown up with so obviously im gonna miss it my self, even when i didnt smoke i still enjoyed the aroma of smoke crossed with stale beer. kids these days wont know anything about it, so wont miss it.

its stupid how much signage is needed though. at work we had a "no smoking" card on every single table, and that was just on the floor i was on. thats about 50 signs telling you that you cant smoke, with 10 signs on the doors when you come in. waste of paper imo, if you dont know you cant smoke now then you need knee capping.

1) Parents must of been really unhealthy. Sorry, but when my dad was 30 he was very much able to do alot of running, lots of swimming etc while smoking 1-2 packs of 20 a day.

effects people in different ways i think. my mam cant breath all that well and gets out of breath easily from decades of smoking, and shes only 47.

i wouldnt ever suggest people take up smoking. my stance is do it if you want, dont if you dont want. just dont complain in 20 years when you cant breath anymore.

I said nothing more than '1 in 3 people get cancer now-a-days.'

Don't try to add anything to the end.

And yes, that is cancer as a whole :)

if we can believe the statistics on the bupa health adverts then yeh bugz is right. 1/3 of people get cancer but we are getting cancer from living longer surely, so should we really be complaining?

Oh, I was only standing on the 30 age part.. My dad is like 40+ now (last time I saw him) was smoking maybe 8-10 a day, alot less than it was.. It's obvious that'll it effect you when you're older, but as you said: different people.

I had on opinion before. If you think your dead was able to do the same things as a non-smoker after smoking two packs a day for 15 years or so I think you're wrong or maybe you watched too many of those commercials.

Smoking has advantages, that's true :).

I don't have much against being a passive smoker as long as someone is not so ignorant to fire a cig right in front of me while leaving the tube or so - I have the choice too, whether I want or don't want to be a passive smoker I mean.

I'd visit certain places like my favorite bar more when people would be forced to smoke outside - but I am not sure it would work in Germany, as many locations to go are in residential areas and you can't be loud after 10 pm outside in such areas. So the residents would be able to call the cops and some do it when it's loud outside their place :-(.

How is that adding anything for the end?

All I said was taking your statstics and adding them to the UK population :)

My is 51 and stopped a few years ago.

I am sure he'd have a breath or two more as a non-smoker, even when he was 30. The body still regenerates good at this age but you do have negative effects from drinking/smoking when you do sports. Not trying to preach anything here - running after a ball and smoking just didn't fit somehow for me.

I'm still waiting for the government to come after something these anti-smokers like.

Then we can discuss again how "nice a change" it is.

How about beer? Meat? Alcohol altogether? Feta f*cking cheese.

If you smoke, ofcourse you're ticked off. If you don't, you won't get it.

Yes yes, passive smoke kills, if you live in a smokehouse for 30 odd years, which is the funny part. Always hearing "You giving me cancer" if i happen to smoke one at a busstop.

Sure, it smells, but so do other things. Daily things, things i'd rather not smell, but they still have hobos on busses, people farting in public and urinals with no smelly fresh discs and so forth.

Sure, it's nicer to those people now that didn't smoke, but at the same time, you just switched the table, and in many cases hurt the workers more then helped.

And why wouldn't i call an anti-smoker an a-hole, 'cause everytime a non-smoker opens his mouth, out come the stupid/moron/killer comments.

crap legislation , made by people who wouldnt recognize sound legal principles if it kicked them.

again i reiterate there have been no law ever that forbid owners to put up a no smoking sign on their establishment.

get it over it allready and recognize the issue for what is , a debate about how we like our laws to be constructed and how we think the government should interfer in civil rights.

personally i couldnt care less about smoking laws as i rarely if ever would be seen frequenting any of said places where this law might be problematic , but i do care about judicial principles.

smoking is legal , hence its the owner of an property who decides if smoking is allowed there , want it any other way you will have to ban tobacco entirely or make crap laws like this.

But, actually this discussion has been over a million times, so i'll make a comment about the issue AT HAND for a change :D

Banning smoking in an open-air event IS silly. And that's why i said so harshly about a-holes and such in the first post.

It's basically moving towards;

"Sir sir! Can't smoke here, there's a building just yonder over that hill, past the tree and little to the left."

"It's...It's a f*cking cave!"

"Yes sir, but it's inhabitants prefer a cleaner, fresher air, with a tiny hint of pine."

"What...the bear in the cave is saying that my smoking is bad for the ambience of his decor?!"

"Quite sir."

"Oh f*ck off."

Soon, no smoking in festivals(like they already banned the drinking of own drinks, only drink in tents assigned for it, etc).

Then no smoking in busstops, stations, in your own car in the hiwhway and finally, on earth.

I want boiled cabbage banned, and that blue cheese type of stuff, and gasoline, yes, gasoline is bad because i get sick of the smell.

old cigarettes smoke comparably smells just as bad for non smokers as swedish "surströmming" does. u live in finland mate. take a trip over and buy a can and open that and u'l get a fairly good clue how fucking horrible it is.

oh and by the way, i smoke so don't give me any more of your bullshit.

Yes sir, gladly sir, shine your shoes sir? :kissit:

You'll still smell after a night out, just not of smoke anymore.

u live in finland mate. take a trip over

If i wanted a swedish adventure, i'd stick a broom up my bum while singing about jordgubbar and potatismoss med smör :D

Not to totally burn your comment. But my non-smoker friends, on several occasions say they love the smell of the cigarettes I smoke (Granted, they're only mayfair) and I can't complain after that ^^

OK so you want an argument as to why the government should make such a law?

Despite plenty of ad campaigns the peer pressure on 12 year olds says you must smoke cos all your mates are doing it.
Making it illegal in places like pubs removes a bit of the "all my mates are smoking so I have to as well to fit in, reason for smoking". That's the reason most people actually smoke. Yeah there's the "I smoke cos I enjoy it" brigade.. they are actually fairly few. Most people smoke because they are addicted and now need to, or because they as Thad so elequantly puts it, want to to get a phone number.

It's a campaign to make starting up smoking less attractive to teenagers, and if you want to argue that having 90% of the population spending money they can't really afford on cigarettes on the local council estate is good for the country then keep complaining.

well i havnt smoked and im fitter than one my my friends who smoke alot each day! its besides the point that you have one friend you're fitter than. how many non smokers are healthier than you is intersting.

my question is though: if smoking should be allowed on public places - why should anything be illigal? putting hazardous chemicals in children toys could be fine. as long as its advertised it contains something very unhealthy? why not just dump all kind of crazy shit in your food as long as it said that it contained hazardous stuff? you'd have the choice to eat it or leave it be.

your mistaking peer pressure for lower class chav life. weve all been 12 before and i personally was never pressured into something i didnt want to do. the 12 yr olds you see smoking are the offspring of scummy parents who probably bought them the fags. i dont know anyone who got forced into things they didnt want to do.

peer pressure is a defense for shit parenting and weak minded teens.

Turn the question around: Why not make everything unhealthy illegal then?
