Looking to get something small and economical for 5-6 grand (or a tad more if needs be).

I was thinking of the Toyota Aygo or Yaris, anyone had these and can comment? Probably go looking at the weekend if I get a chance!

You'll lose a shed load of money in depreciation at that price.

Buy an MX-5. You know you want to.

Ford Ka - very cheap insurance and a gritty little car to be honest.

The new Panda is supposed to be an excellent car for the price, the 100HP version looks ace. Or if you want a return on your investment, a small Vee Dub like a Lupo or Polo should do the trick.

Polo 1.4 Diesel was the cheapest car on the road to run. Low fuel cost and low depreciation.

Not exactly quick but meh.

Dont buy anything new - buy a 1-2 yr old car and you will save some cash when you come to sell it on.

Bah just checked and cant find it - the company I work for used to sell off ex-company cars cheapo to friends n family but I havent seen it for ages and cant find it on any external websites - will have a look in work 2moro for you and if I can find owt will post link / prices or whatever I find for ye. Usually not high miles nor hammered etc either so some decent bargains (unless you get one of my old cars)

Can you get these things second hand for cheap yet? I always thought one of them might be quite cool just for scooting about in.

Yeah just after something to do short journeys in so panda etc all good suggestions. Probably looking at a 1-2 year old car, not only because of depreciation but because I've owned new cars before and always ended up having them back in the garage getting niggly little faults fixed (like lights not working!)

Also the new shape Ford Fiesta is a good bet, definitly make sure you get it second hand hand though, also try to get the newer styled ones as the older ones are a bit dreary. They've been out for quite a few years now so probably quite a glut of them on the market.

Id actually say to stay away from the newer style ford fiestas, I have a pre-2006 model (before they got the re-style) and the reason people are flogging them are because of the shit fuel guage where every time you decide to travel, you have to guess how much fuel you really have as its a block LED design. It will show as 3/4 when your really only just above 1/2 full (and we know how people always forget to keep checking their fuel guages)

also try to get the newer styled ones as the older ones are a bit dreary
the new "bubble lights" version of the Fiesta changed their fuel guage and fixed other niggles with the earlier version, but there still is no steering wheel remote unless you go for the bloody ghia version

Dont get me wrong, Fords can be reliable, but by fuck they sure know how to make things "optional extras on another model" :(

My flatmate has an aygo black, apparently it's nippy and easily does motorway speeds, it's really only a 2 seater unless your rear passengers have no legs. I've not heard her having any problems with it, but it is a brand new one.

I have a FIAT Punto 1.9 turbo diesel, it's about 4 yrs old (got it in august) and it's a great little car, plenty of room in the boot (I've managed to fit 2 sets of golf clubs in there) and it has about 95 BHP iirc.

Well there's only the two of us for the next 3/4 years and having crap rear seat space would perhaps stop me having to give so many people lifts every bloody time we go out! :)

Id buy second hand for that price range. You'll get more choice and probably more bang for your buck. A mate of mine bought a BMW 5 series (2.8L) for that kinda money. Had 90k on the clock but thats just running in for that car. Drives well. If you want something smaller though Id get a VW Polo.

Focus is a solid motor - had one for a couple of years had no problems with it, Renaults on the other hand have been nothing but a pain in the arse - got a Megane currently - had some issues with it, old dear had a Clio - she had issue's - missus got a Scenic - had issue's - few dudes in work had Renaults as well via the co and most had em back to the garage for something within 6 mnths - all of these were new as well - great for a company car - comfy, nice to drive, nice interior etc but would I fuck buy one myself..

Had a look around our comp webby for a min today - couldnt find any cheap motors but offering 5.9% apr on cars currently if thats any use - no idea how decent that is as I dont check lending rates very often tbh.
