Slow or fast Spear?

At the moment I use the slowest possible spear hunters can get, the thrust arcanium battle Spear to get as much front loaded damage as possible.
However, almost every TG spear is 4.5 spd and I see people use those so they have to be ok aswell.
Can someone give some input what they think is best to use.
Slow or fast spear? and why?

Slow prear, u get alot of dmg done every hit, but then again u might both have 10% or less hp left and u just swinged ur spear, so ull know he will kill u before u get ur next swing, while with a faster one u do a bit less dmg, but overtime the same dmg, and u might actually win a fight coz of the faster swing rate.
So if u miss with a faster spear, it istn as devostating as if u miss with a slow spear, or fumbel.
But what do i know, im a damn healer, with no other L50 chars =)

Imo take the slowest possible, frontload dmg is very nice, as in short fights it will deal more dmg than a fast speed (thx to no speed penalty on first swing) ...

A friend of mine had a fast TG spear in his ssc template, sincer he owned one. But after a while he just couldn't take the low dmg anymore and the dmg difference is huge. The fast one was at like 190-220 dmg and the slow one was around 350 if I remember correctly. Or even worse perhaps.
With a slow spear you do massive amount of dmg, which is good, and as zmurf said doesn't give the enemy many chances to evade or so.

Yes, but if you swing once with a slow Spear, and get evaded/parried/blocked, they can spam a reactionary a couple of times before your next hit. So say you fight an Inf, you get evaded, they attempt DF, you evade it, they can try it another 1 or maybe 2+ times before your next hit.
Anyway, just use what you fee works best for you, if you have Buffbot + HasteBot then slower is proberly better.

I have also been wondering whether I should change my arcanium battle spear to something faster, becasue when I meet infiltrators I mostly end up dead. It is much better to use a faster weapon against an player with high evade.

However two hunters playing duo makes slower spears alot better against assasins. For example an infil pa:s one of the hunters, the other hunter quickly goes behind the infil and use razor edge style, then both of hunters can hit the infil without getting evaded.

So basically if you have an hunter friend you often duo with, you should use the slowest spear possible and I also agree that when you have an haste bot the slower spear is better. But if you haven't got a haste bot nor a hunter friend then a faster spear is a good choice in my opinion.

weapons slower than 2 secs get a small bonus per .1 sec on damage. So a 5.3 speed spear will do slightly more damage over time than a 4.5 speed spear, but with a 4.5 speed spear there might be a smaller chance someone can pull off only one reactionary.

250 quickness gives you 38% haste. So a 5.3 speed means swinging at 3.29 secs and with a 4.5 speed it means 3.06 secs. And I think you get 2.4% more damage on the 5.3 speed spear than the 4.5 (might be wrong there, but it does give you more damage). So swing .23 secs faster or gain some damage.

best would be to cap swing speed (1.5 sec) but that is just a not possible dream I guess

Use TG spear 5.0 delay with slash dmg - should help vs infils.
Trust resistant leather better cutted into pieces with slash spear.
Crafted one @5.0 speed, the same as TG, but @ 16.2 dps, in the same time You should get MP to achieve 16.2......while TG MP 16.5

There are at least 2 TG slash spears 16.5dps/5.0delay on realm so far

In 1.64 we can craft 16.5dps slash spears, max now is 16.2dps(crafted)
