a couple of days ago i decided to check my RAM and see if the new stuff i have in my PC is the same as what was in my last pc. it wasnt... so i put it back as it was. when turning my pc back on i noticed my gfx card fan didnt power up ( a problem i had when i 1st got it... GF 5900 XT... you get half a spin when turning power on then it stops). i removed it and tried to fix it with no luck.

i get a black screen when i turn my PC on and nothing happens. so i assume my gfx card isnt powering up. i have changed my PSU now as i think i broke the original 1 in my annoyance. i know everything is plugged in as it should be, and my system worked for 6 months without problem (after i got gfx card to work and until i touched the ram).

somebody i know suggested i had fried the motherboard by not earthing myself. if he is wrong what else could the problem be?

any help would be much appreciated.

there are a few beeps, too close together to tell how many though. i suppose it could be 1 long beep... a few small ones or lots of tiny beeps. but yes beeps on start up. all the fans (except GFX card fan) start up and the HDD and the cd drive power up, as does the keyboard. not sure about the mouse as cant really tell until you get a screen up to move the pointer (which is 1 of my problems as i dont). as far as i can tell its only the monitor and gfx card and perhaps the ram that im having trouble with.

when you "checked" your RAM i assume you were looking in the BIOS, if so i've had very simmialr problems when setting my ram to latencies that it can't handle*

it's drastic, but try resetting you BIOS, i'd leave this as a last resout though, as i know i hate haveing to redo my whole BIOS

* went from some corsair to budget stuff, without changing the timings back to auto, oops
