look into chi gung breathing techniques, very good at relaxing you and if you do them in bed you can fall asleep very fast. a problem tho is, just as you are very relaxed you feel a need to turn to sleep, dont, just kepe iwth it and drift off, you will correct yourself in sleep and may not and even end up having a better night

if i am trying to get to sleep i have a joint, out as soon as my head hits the pillow, nothing much else works for me.

As has been said a couple of times: reading works pretty well for me. Not because I find reading boring. I enjoy it, but after an hour or two my eyes and brain get tired, making it easier to fall asleep :).

I also found that reading in a language that isn't your mother tongue works better. Don't know how good your knowledge of foreingn languages is, but Camus writes pretty readable French. I enjoyed L'étranger and I've heard good things about La peste.
