lots of people are probably going to shout at me about this but take a pill, tbh you have a headache you take an asperin, can;t sleep take a sleeping pill.

That's my answer! It helps break the non-sleep cycle and when you can't sleep you stress about it then lose even more sleep and so on and so forth.

That's fine for one-off occasions, but sleep medication should not be used as a permanent solution towards insomnia, it will cause more problems in the long run than it solves. Pretty much all of the the over the shelf stuff specifically states it's only for short term and can't be used every night.

I can't believe noone else recommends a wank :(

Wanks a little yes, will help you get off to sleep but less likely to keep you asleep for long periods.

yeah I wouldn't do sleeping pills, beer or weed (don;t do weed anyway but just example) at all as long term solution.

I did read something on Yahoo news today that said about the more strenuous exercise you take before sleep the better your quality of sleep will be and that the general belief of 'light exercise' before sleep is a misconception; so go for a really good work out (whatever form that may take ^^) before sleep and you shuld be right as rain :D

I recommend reading: "A Guide to Credit Derivatives" by Davies, Hewer & Rivett
(Published by Price Waterhouse Coopers. A snip at £130.)
Guaranteed to send you to sleep. I mean guaranteed.

If we talking about medication try one of these, should help you sleep for a couple of days ....

Was prescibed this a few years ago for insomnia, man it was awesome. You could sleep through a earthquake.

It always amazed just how quickly i would drop off once it started to kick in and the longer you fought it the higher you felt.

Sex was also real funky when you popped one of those i tell ya, if you didnt drop off in mid action :D

Ask your doctor. Trust me you wont need anything else to help you drop off.

Thanks for the replies so far :)
Like I said, I don´t need anything to drop off, I need something to remain dropped off. According to my doctor, a pill doesn´t really help, because the kind of sleep it provides you with, is not a healthy or natural sleep with little or no recovery effect.
I`ll try to start doing some excercises in the evening now. Maybe that helps.

Night all, see you in 2 hours. :D

Is there anything in your bedroom that is waking you up? Sound light etc? Maybe you are too warm/cold? Uncomfortable? Give yourself the most comfy sleeping experience possible and see if that works?

I have always had problems with sleep, I've more or less trained my body at this point to operate on 4-5 hours a night, which in all honesty IS enough, you just have to get used to it - imo the whole '8 hours' rule is tosh.

One thing I do when I'm having trouble getting off to sleep specifically or feel I need a few extra hours is to settle down in bed at a reasonable time - NOT way earlier than usual, just a normal time like 11pm-midnight on a work night (i get up at 6) - and listen to a podcast or music in bed, that way I just chuck off the headphones and press pause on my phone and drift off easily. I'm sure it wouldn't work for everyone, but it works every time for me. Worth trying at the very least and depending on your choice of podcast, this could also be an educational aid or so. :)

Interesting enough, for the past two weeks i've woken up to a wank...err...imean at 8am, almost to the dot, no matter when i go to sleep and with nothing actually waking me up(really silent neighbourhood).

Not bad though, get a lot of sh*t done.
