Sleep deprivation

I has it. :(

When I go to bed, I fall asleep pretty quickly. Problem is, I can´t sleep through the night, I wake up after 1,5-2 hours of sleep... then rinse repeat.
It´s really getting annoying now and it´s seriously affecting my health: My level of concentration during the day is close to zero, I`m tired, dizzy and short-tenmpered. Went to the doctor (´n guess what he told me, guess what he told me...): not much to do against that, except sgo to bead early, have a walk before you go to bed and bla bla bla. o_O

Anyone else having the same problems?

No...

...but I find reading a book an hour before bed (ie stop watching TV!) helps me sleep...and also cut out tea/coffee before 6pm...

And as the doc says do a bit of exercise...

As dys says, try to avoid doing anything stimulating before going to bed. i.e. no TV, Computer, work or study an hour before, and don't drink coffee or red bull or anything with caffeine, taurine, high amounts of sugar or such an hour or three before you go to bed.

Furthermore, exercise helps for some however I find it only make me more alert. Physically tired, but mentally more alert, so that's a personal preference.

Been happening to me just recently, waking up 4.30and can't get back to sleep.
Don't just lie there, get up and do something till you feel tired again.
Also check you don't have any worries you're not addressing.

I suffer from this also, the best solution i ahve found to date is as follows.

1. No Food or caffeine drinks after 7pm

2. Make sure you do plenty of exercise at some point in the day

3. Twenty minutes (minimum) prior to sleeping read a book

Bobs your uncle.

4. Turn off tv/computer 40min-1h prior to bed if you have problems sleeping.

5. move cellphone away from bed (worked wonders for me)

I suffer from chronic insomnia too, but in my case it comes and goes in cycles.

Its so awful it makes you want to commit suicide.

i feel your pain: weed / hash was the solution for me

5 mins reading any posts by Thot usually sends me right off to sleep. <comedy snore> :p ;) :D

Touch wood, no insomnia for a few months, had some very serious bouts last year though and would not like to go through that again.

As mentioned before, read before you hit the sack. It's bin proven that looking at a screen (comp, phone, tablet, tv) before you goto bed will affect your sleep.

Interrupted / poor sleep could also be down to stress / stuff on your mind keeping you awake. Not sure the caffeine thing works. I regularly drink a strong cup of tea immediately before going to bed & causes me zero problems. Exercising may help.

I think it depends on the person, some people can go straight to sleep after being on the pc, other's cannot.

I find when i get into bed my mind is still racing, i tried reading a book for a couple of nights and it does help, also find just having some really light music (piano solo's or some simple hip hop beats) really send me to sleep!

Just try a few different things, don't use the computer for a week and exercise for 30 minutes and read a book instead. Relax instead of coming home and getting worked up on the computer!

lots of people are probably going to shout at me about this but take a pill, tbh you have a headache you take an asperin, can;t sleep take a sleeping pill.

That's my answer! It helps break the non-sleep cycle and when you can't sleep you stress about it then lose even more sleep and so on and so forth.

A beer.

Seriously.

Though if you're an addiction prone personality, don't :p

But otherwise, beer does lul you into a lovely little sleep. Just one, maybe two, beers though. Any more and it goes into drunkville.

Wank and a beer and read a book as you lie in bed, you could do all 3 together but hard to read with sticky fingers :p

Hmm. A slow scrolling laptop type of thing and...a straw.

It's so crazy it just might work! :D

Though you still need to automize the reading somehow...

Wij is too right; wank and a little read of a book, works an absolute treat.

Wash your hands before you read the book though or the pages will stick together. Reading a book always helps me.

My friend buys melatonin capsules off the internet to help him sleep. I've used them a few times too and they seem to help.

edit: lol sounds like I meant that buying things online helps him sleep: you have to take the pills btw
