After moving to new area and promising my gf I would'nt trawl porn or spend 12 hours a day gaming we ordered sky broadband.

Anyway to cut a real long story short, they are a load of wank.
I've never spent so much wasted time talking to non-english speaking tech support, telling lies, very bad customer service, and hours of holding......and it is still not on after 2 months.

Canceled it tonight in writing!

Can anyone recommend a reliable, well priced ISP?
Sadly can't cancel our sky tv yet so cable is outta the question.

So far been with Freeserve
Bulldog
Wanadoo

Any suggestions considered.
Thanks Dan.

BT are bloody awful too, finally got them to send an engineer today, still wank bandwidth. took a month of speaking to indians who cant even speak english to get it looked at.

I think its any service these days is utter shit in the UK, they really couldnt care less about the customer. they just want your cash.

I'm with bulldog at uni and its ok. Decent people and CS, we've had a wierd problem where our net cuts out when it rains a lot, but I'm fairly sure thats BT wiring on our road, dodgy house wiring, and perhaps our house phone that are contributing so theres not a lot they can do.

At home we're with blueyonder-telewest, now virgin media or something I believe, their cable setup, its fantastic, has dropped once, for 20 mins, in the last year and generally CS is pretty good. I dont know if you have to go through NTL, or virgin or what now, nor do I know if different areas get either NTL or telewest.

got telewest at my uni home, quiet nice but i think its a bit overpriced now.

Got BT here and it's been fine, tho the router they supply you with is really abd, you'll need to upgrade to your own one, which is what i'm planning to do.

Always be aware of the "Up to xxgb", becuase that depends on where you live to what speed you will get unless you get cable. and 4gb's really isnt much, 700mb a film, say you watch a few trailers, some music (naughty) and what not, 4gigs goes down pretty fast. IMO - always go for the unlimited.

Cheers mate, looks interesting, need facking mac off sky now and I'm at work :(

With occassional gaming, few music and film d/l's would I ok with 4 gig limit?
I've always paid for unlimited and never sure if I really needed it tbh.

gaming uses very little so in general i dont even count it, really depends how much you plan on dl'ing,
i tend to tell people keep 1gb for surfing, another for streaming (light use only ofc) and the rest judge how much you are going to dl .
Alternatively get the 4gb package if you see yourself going over regularly upgrade to the next one up its simply a matter of checking a dfferent box on the website and you get migrated to the new package

Tbh if you want accurate results download a bandwidth monitor and see how much you use every month

(remember to include the upload traffic too)

I personally use alot because i VPN from work to home and vice versa so went with unlimited

Nildram are good, but expensive £25.99 aq month for unlimited upto 8 meg. But in my opinion you get what you pay for and in companies like talktalk's case thats not very much at all.
