damn im posting in the noob section...but i have to admit it, i play the game since beta and still am not sure about the answer and ppl i ask tend to give replies like "aeehm good question" or just a dozen different answers and everyone is sure hes right.
so here it comes:

my wiz is 50 fire. shall i get the maximum +fire magic skill in my template?

question: what does it do exactly?
i ve heared the following facts/rumors:

+skill doesnt affect your dmg cap
+skill does effect your chance to get resisted
+skill above lvl 50 is like 0.5% more dmg/lvl
+skill makes you nuke closer to your dmg cap.

the last thing makes me think a lot. cause as in the 50 fire wizard case you dont have ANY variance in your dmg output at all (ofc it varies from target to target, but not on same mob/player).

so what now? any help apprechiated....pin where are you???

+skill lets you:

1. hit for less variance if your under 50 spec
2. be resisted less on high lvl mobs and high resist enemies so +12 is a must

afaik it doesnt give u +0.5% per nuke... but i may be wrong.
But seeing as u cant go over your dmg cap unless you have relics or debuff... i cant see it giving you more dmg per spec AFTER 50 base.

no point in getting +skill for spec spells, only for baseline spells. for baseline spells it will increase your base damage, but not your cap.

1. Yes, it also helps variance of spec nukes on targets above your level (you get variance on targets above your level, higher spec = less variance).
2. No - flat out resists are based solely on spell level and level of target.

It gives around 0.4% extra damage per level above 50 (I just checked this cos people have been debating it on VN :p). So +11 (that's the cap, dunno where you got +12 from) gives the equiv of mom2 (in NF, around mom1.5 in OF). Not too bad for something you can put into a template relatively trivially. As noted, cap is not affected by your spec.

nice answer, I was sure on 1 and 2, but they of course dont affect RVR in any significant way..

Assuming I have capped spell pierce, and 350+int, I would be hitting for cap anyway so would I really get anything from it...? :) Guess so on opponents with resist buffs up, ah well back to the SC calculator again!

Realm ranks aren't something you put in your template usually though boni. :p
