Skald or Thane?

im gonna start a new char on pryd and cant decide wether to make a skald or a thane. pls help by saying the good and bad things of each class and help me decide :)

Thane of course, we are the mezz breakers nr 1. our spells do uber damage. We got our speedy thane speed. Everyone love us. We get our selfbuff's, medium shield. We are the uber gimps of the realm. Cant get any better.

Rule RvR mezzbreaking olympics, be a Thane. But by the time you are 20 you'll learn to constantly curse the fact that you dont have that speed song :)

that is a major diffrence

BTW Skald also get some nice spells too.

Before this gets in another lame thread about Thane's..

Make a Skald, they have great speed, nice DD's and mez.

personly i think both are good class's
Thanes are strong melee fighters with self buffs and DD spells (yes they can AOE too)
Skalds are fast light tanks with DD spells and crowd control

...albion gets paladin lol...

Bubble the only thing makign thanes less of a non tanker than skalds is their ability to spec shield, nothing else. if it wasnt for shield thanes and Skalds are equal in melee.

i would pick skald through :) they can solo in RvR and a thane would ahve trouble

Go Thane, I did, but then my main's a Spiritmaster!!

Seriously tho, I rolled a Thane as an alt, shes great... Dwarf Thane, has loads of hps and hits like a truck, I love her and shes a nice change from a caster. She can solo most oranges and I cant recall when she last died to a yellow con mob. But shes been well looked after with armour and 99% Qua Hellskor Crafted weapons too :) So I guess this makes a difference. Shes fun to play and has some decent self buffs and some spells to play with too. I probably wont RvR with her too much cos I rolled her really as something different to play when the upper 40 levels of my main got too much and also to make her the best Damn Alchemist on the server :) (Patch 1,53 so december 2008 then).

Anyway, Skalds: Havent played one, cant comment but they seem good too but in different ways.

Either way just have fun :)

People seem to think that thanes are nerfed......don't listen to em

Thanes make great tanks and are good soloing, your self dmg add is 1 of the best in the game.

skalds are cool, but only get small sheilds which means that 4 tanking, their second place.

thanes of course can AoE

skalds can sing

thanes find it tough 4 teams but can solo

skalds get in teams easy

Actually we're crap tanks, good up until about level 25-30 and then the rule of diminishing returns hits big time w/r hps etc.

Done both into the high 20s/low 30s.

Thanes are dull. Skalds are dull too. I occasionally return to my thane when I'm really, really bored. I have not yet returned to the skald.

Thanes tank better than skalds. Skalds run faster (so level quicker 1-20, as killtasks pass in a blurr). Thanes have prettier spells. Skalds have more variety in spells. They both solo OK, and group OK (I'd say the thane has the edge solo, the skald has the edge in groups).

A big clincher may be the spec points - thanes get 2 per level, skalds only get 1.5 (or did when I last played mine). Makes a big difference, as a thane can specialise in weapon plus spells plus another, whereas the skald is struggling to spec both weapon and spells.

So many non level 50 Thanes posting about how good their class is.

If you are makign a Thane to PvE listen to these guys, but in the end your ultimate goal is RvR correct?

Take it from us 50 Thanes, make a skald.

A Thane brings only his shield to a group whereas Skalds bring Mez and speed. (their damage spells being comparable with skalds having an egge in that their INSTA cast shouts D NOT dump the whole group out of speed)

A Warrior can do 90% of what a Thane does in RvR groups (discounting Keeps)

If you wanna spam AoE at keep defences and takes, roll a Thane, if not, roll a warrior.

If you wanna be good in open field skirmishes, roll a skald, this is my opinion after playing my Thane 50 to RR4L5.

Thanes are far from tanks, they have rogue hp goddammit.

Thanes cap 400hp below Warriors and Bezerkers when full Aug Shaman buffed, thats 1800hp compared to 2200hp

All that said, Thanes are by far the best tank class to level up in PvE, amazing fun, I loved it till 44 when Malmo rared its ugly head

My Christmas wish is that Santa turns my lvl40 thane to a lvl40 skald. I really, really, really miss speed above all. Mezz is ok too...
