Big discussion thread on avforums.com
Just to say I am the latest to get stung (you'll see my post). I was in the market for a new camera body as my sister's wedding is coming up in a couple of months and I need a higher resolution for large pictures that I might be doing. Simplyelectronics had the best price for the body (£500, it's usually closer to £560), and since they were affiliated through Google Checkout and Amazon I thought they seemed perfectly reputable.
I ordered my camera, got an email confirmation, but strangely the order never appeared when I logged into the website. I was sus right from the off, so wanted to cancel it and get it somewhere else, maybe even locally. I tried to phone, noone answers (turns out, noone ever gets through now), so I emailed them to see if the order was received. The next day, they advised it had been and they had taken the money. I also paid for express delivery (it was deemed 'IN STOCK') which was 1-2 days.
A week later, no sign of the camera body. I started to worry and googled them and came across the thread on avforums, only to read about things not being delivered, refunds not being given, wrong goods turning up, imported stock delivered from Hong Kong. Now I fell like a fucking tard for not doing my homework, but since they were used by Google and Amazon I thought they would be fine.
After all I read, I sent them an email telling them to cancel the order immediately and to refund the money to my card. Stupidly, I ordered via debit card.
Anyway, I panicked more and called my bank who raised a transaction dispute for me because I made all efforts to try to cancel but they still took the money. The bank will return the money until the end of the dispute which may take up to three months.
I emailed them again telling them that I had done the above and that I would pursue it legally if I didn't get my refund.
Barge pole.
