How does these work, do I really need a tradeskill to be able to use them? The explanation is just crap!

get tradeskill, buy siegeweapon from siegemaster, buy ammo, place the siegeweapon, type /control voila you can shoot.

hmm I know how how normal works, I got a tradeskill spellcrafting and it doesn't operate with it ;p
I just thought it was possible to use the bloody siege master, thought he would popup and I could communicate through him to use the fecked siege weapon

mm but I was thining of the siege master, think there is some function there for ppl who doesn't have the "proper" tradeskill.

ive youve got spellcraft or alchemy your out of luck im afraid......

Yup you need to have a trade skill that is NOT spellcraft or alchemy. (side note: you can still buy siege weapons and place them if you don't have a classic tradeskill you just can't use them.
Anyway step by step guide to using a catapult - roughly same thing for ballista and ram except ram doesn't need ammo)
1. Buy catapult token from siege guy
2. Buy ammo token from siege guy
3. Give catapult token back to siege guy
4. IMPORTANT give ammo token to siege guy too
5. Get into position with siege guy following you
6. Right click on siege guy and click the text "place siege weapon" in the dialogue box that appears
7. OK there is a little bug that when siege weapon is placed the control box doesn't automatically appear, so either run out of range of the siege weapon or do /control release
8. Pick up all the ammo the siege guy dropped (it doesn't weigh much so even casters can carry a full set) Use nearest object target key (F7 by default) as it's quite hard to click on
9. Click catapult and do /control and you will see all the nice buttons
10. Click "arm" and wait for bar to fill up (you can sort out your ground target during this time)
11. Hold F5 and choose your ground target or do /ground assist on someone
12. Click Aim and wait for bar to fill up
13. Take one piece of ammo from inventory (One at a time only so you will have to split the stack) and drop it on the catapult
14. Click load button and wait for bar to fill up
15. FIRE!
16. Laugh evilly at the death spam
Hint: make macros of /control and /control release to speed things up
