Sidewinder Joypad

Can anyone tell me what the best setup to use with a MS Sidewinder 2 button GamePad is. I have trouble using a mouse.

all depends on what mouse you have.

If it's a 5 button, then bind it to whatever keys you don't need when you play. That way each weapon will be adifferent button.

If u got a 2 button mouse, use the wheel.

Play for a few days, you get used to it quickly, and you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.

It's a two button MS intellimouse with a wheel.

I'm right handed and I have it set to shoot on left button, jump on right button and nothing set for the wheel at the moment.

Any suggestions for the best setup would be appreciated.

hmmm
you are probably best off using the mouse wheel for weapons
up/down to change and press to zoom (although ive never used zoom in an on-line game yet).

BUT!!! when u think a 5 buton mouse is only 30 quid its worth investing in 1 when u get the chance.

If ur very new u will lose a lot but hey we all did.
practice with the bots first (offline) lol =0)
but trust me ull be an addict soon!!!!

Okay, so I neea to get a 5 button mouse. I will asap cos I luv Q3.

I've noticed that other players on line jump up and down alot. Am I right in thinking that they've somehow programmed their mouse to continually jump? and a couple of time it's been me or him shooting at each other at close proximity. I fire continuously but always end up being fragged. Is it me whose completely crap or are the others cheating?

I havent programed my mouse 2 jump but its a faster way 2 travel(or seems 2 b).As for people cheating or u being crap?

I've got the same mouse and I set it up like this...
Left button is fire,
Scroll is weapon change
Middle button is jump
Right button is use.

Use the setup you feel best with, i can't stand having my right mouse button as jump and i fix jump to space. But honestly, you don't want to play with a gamepad, the aim is never as good as a mouse (ie you can only aim along 2 axis, up down, left right, with a mouse you have all that movement.

My set up if youre interested

Mouse- I have a razor boomslang (4 button mouse)-thumb button used to change sensitivity "on the fly". A good mouse but very difficult to use initially. Try to get a mouse with a good dpi (razors 2000 ie very smooth movement/sensitive) USB mice are better than PS2 and optical are okay for Q3..have fun

mouse set up
left =fire,
middle scroll forward= shotgun
middle scroll back =plasmagun
middle button pressed= zoom
right = jump

keys
movement
q=l straf
e=right straf
w=forward
s=backward
left alt =walk/run (default=always run), dont use crouch myself

weapons
r=rocket launcher
d=railgun
space=grenade launcher
b=lightning gun
v=machine gun
No BFG key as its too lame to use.
So every weapon have a single press or scroll to specifically pick it.
Don't use scroll to basically go through the selection of weapons cause when you do that you will have been fragged.
Set fov to 120 (cg_fov 120) inconsole for wider field of view
Learn to rocket jump and grenade/rocket jump to move around maps

Never understood how ppl can use jump as mouse2 :|

I use Arrowkeys, KP_INS, KP_END to move, jump and crouch. All weapons chosen via mouse :|

and just having a look at sawtooth's config there I think I'll add mousewheelup=grenade
