I'm having a problem shutting down my comp.

when I shut it down it only stays turned off for 5 seconds then reboots for a further 5 seconds, and does it all again, indefinatly.

So, I have to unplug it form the mains every night...

it all worked fine, and then suddenly didn't

Never used ME, but there was a shutdown fix for 98 available from the Windows Update site, may be worth a look.

Here's the MSKB article on general WinME shutdown troubleshooting.

Also check you have not invoked the "fast shutdown" flag, use Start -> Run -> msconfig and it's somewhere in there.
