Good cars aren't as expensive as you might think though.

True, for example.

An older BMW M5 for about the same price as a new Ford Mondeo. The problem with older cars is that a) they may or may not have had a hard life, so you take your chances b) they're likely to start needing some expensive maintenance such as replacement of timing belts, new shocks c) corrosion is likely to start taking hold d) no warranty, so if it blows up, you're probably quite fucked.

My dad ran a J plate 1.8 Astra SXi until it was over 100k miles, it ran like a watch because he changed the oil every 6000 miles and never thrashed it. However, it failed an MOT for serious corrosion of the chassis and was deemed unsafe.

It was scrapped.

It wouldn't be a legion of sportscars without a pesky hot hatch on it's tail :D

Christ, you rip the piss out of my car whilst driving a skip with wheels!

Seriously, though, I drove a 4x4 VW Golf for a few years and found them to be good, reliable cars. Unfortunately mine developed a major gearbox problem that wouldn't go away. What model is your skip tho? :)

It's a GTI 16v, so it's quite a rapid skip.

Heh, like Tom said, they don't have to be that expensive, You can pick one up like mine for well under 10k now. Also I am not wealthy, but I do work my ass off to pay for it. Worked a 70 hour week two weeks ago, 65 last week and this will be a short week at 58 hours come 4 o'clock on Saturday.

Only downside to this is no social life and not enough time to drive the damn car :p

It does seem strange to me though that I can afford to own and run a Lotus, but to buy a house at the moment, I need a 10k payrise. Something aint right there, but that's for another thread.

Now, more cars!! and they don't have to be fast or shiney, just post what you drive.

best £150 i ever spent. got it off some old f00 who said its one of the rare ZX turbo ones. despite its age it was a fast car. loved going up and down the M1 on me early morning runs:) tho pushed it too far once and engine gave out. sold it dead for £500 and now just mainly driving a crappy van about

totaly regret selling it on tho

My car, quite a boring Mondeo, but in its defence it has only done 19000 miles and Ive had it best part of a year :)
The other pic is my bike, currently a GSF1200S bandit. Its kind of old fashioned looking compared to some of my other bikes, but it is really a lot of fun to ride. It makes about 110bhp, which aint bad for something that weighs about 210kg, but far more importantly it makes about 80ftllbs of torque at about 4500-5000rpm. When you consider that at those revs the bike is doing about 70 mph, and thats the kind of speed I mostly cruise at, it means that theres instant no-gearchange acceleration whenever you want it .Top fun :D

nice looking bike, toying with the idea of learning how to ride as it would make the journey to college everyday so much quicker if i didn't have to sit in fucking traffic at 20mph

plus it'd make me look cool. can fat people ride?

I was in Brick Lane London for a couple of days last week, there was a bike shop there selling those little classic mopeds. Saw a lovely Union Jack bike, 45 years old, £2250. Let me tell you, it was tempting.
