Should you be able to close a thread made by yourself?

Close or not to close. That is the Question!

Yes, should definitely be able to close your own threads, like to prevent more flaming or when you've gotten the answer you were looking for.

I voted no.

Too easy to "abuse" as I see it. Post something stupid, make your arguments and then close thread before you can be counterargumented. Or something in the lines of that. I'd imagine we would see alot of half discussions where the thread creator would have the one ace up his sleeves - close the thread before the heat gets too hot for himself.

Closing a thread should only happen if the flaming and abusing gets too much but then again what do we have mods for?

Imo its fine as it is.

Well that works both ways, we also have mods to stop the close thread function from being abused. Personally I can think of at least 2 occasions in the last 4 years where I would have liked to close a thread before it got out of hand.

Then PM a mod asking for the thread to get closed. The mod can then judge if the thread should be closed or leave it be if the motivation for closing the thread seems to be to ones own benifit and advantage.

aye im with him lol when you make a thread and you realise you could of just googled it or its something you made when drunk and you ended up dancing for unknown quantities *cough* and make a real tit out of yourself.

but only i should have this privalidge, if anyone else does it then i wanna watch, and repeatedly bump the hell out of the thread forever!!

Yup, its like the polls - if the systems are abused they will just be turned off again.

also can prevent heat of the moment threads that , after a period of cooling down, some people might have regreted posting.

there'll be so many people abusing it, it would last a week before it gets removed again because of that

No, for these reasons:

1. As stated, someone could just flames and close, even mods might miss such threads as they get bumped down lists quick, only a PM will solve that.

2. Don't post in the wrong section drunk Kaun_IA, you muppet :p

3. The thread is no longer 'yours' - it's in the public domain once you submit it, it's a bit vain to suggest you should have ownership, even if it does get out of hand. Again, PM a mod to get it closed with your reasons.

4. I disagree with the 'heat of the moment' threading - if you're annoyed, go away and do something else, don't come to a website that is linked to what you're frustrated about.

5. Rarely, and I do mean rarely, the development of a thread actually brings about positive results, especially if it's a useful topic question to start with.

6. I like people making an arse of themselves with some of their later, bitter posts :twak:

Enjoy!
