There are alot of myths around the TV licence

you DO NOT have to have a licence just for having a TV, only if it tuned in, if you have a TV for watching DVDs playing console games then you DO NOT need a licence

you DO NOT need a licence for watching BBC iplayer

you DO need a part licence for listening to the radio

The TV detector vans are fake, their house location equipment is a basic satnav then they look in your windows for clues of a tv being watched

you DO NOT have to let a TV licence inspector in your house just because they say so, tell them to jog on and get a warrant, which most judges wont allow.

you DO NOT have to reply to their threatening letters as they hold no weight in law as its a private company who try get the TV licence money and you have signed no contract with them to threaten you with letters

Which is wrong, unless its uni halls or the rooms have dead locks in every room

EDIT: re read your message on campus then yes you would need one per room, it was the same when i was in the army, everyone who had TVs had to have one

BBC had some right crackers back in the day.

Only Fools and Horses(before it got syndicated like an American show)
Bottom
Blackadder
Red Dwarf
Vicar of Dibley
The Young Ones
Are you being Served
Absolutely Fabulous
brittas Empire

See a trend, everything before a certain year, say pre 1995, was almost always classic.

Best shows I have seen recently are

I agree with this, but there is an obvious explaination really.

Due to "The Unique Way the BBC is Funded", the BBC is actually screwed these days. Pre 1995 everything was much easier for the BBC. Now they have Radio Stations which are far more successful, and probably cost a lot more to run, there are also huge online resources to finance, not to mention BBC News 24, BBC 3 & 4.

They have a lot more commitments and the license hasn't actually gone up that much since 1994. I suppose they recoup some money from selling on programs to UKTV (Gold, Watch & Dave), but I am guessing that doesn't quite cover everything.

dont forget dvd releases and selling abroad

BBC made an absolute mint on dvd sales -specifically blue planet and planet earth HD sales in the US.

The publishing company was co-owned by Woolworths and made a massive profit.

If the licence fee was scrapped we'd have another channel full of mindless shit aimed at morons (Britain's Got Talent/X-Factor/Big Brother etc). I'd rather throw my TV out the window than have all that brainless, witless, moronic television forced on me on all of the channels.

Huh? Can you explain that a bit more?

Is that BBC funded radio channels or the radio in general? Oo

Very much in the same way you pay for the TV licence to receive TV signals even if you didnt have BBC channels tuned in but had the rest, it still seen as having a signal so you have to pay

EDIT: Theyre arguement is you can tune into BBC stations anytime, theres only your word for it that you dont use them
