Should downloading music be criminal

I know you guys will all come though for me.

I can't say I feel for the victims of music downloading, so they make 3 million a year instead of 4?

..and it's not like every download is a lost sale since none of us can afford all the music we download anyway.

and here's a humerous link for any of you who don't read PA

Reason is, alot of music i download, i'll just download a random track or two then if i like the band i'll go out and buy the album. It's a very good way of introducing people to new music that they wouldn't go straight ahead and buy if they saw it because they don't trust reviews or something.

I agree in principle. It is a bad thing for the companies. Very bad. I download stuff so I can laugh at their pain.

Id say at least 95% of my music downloaded would never have been bought in the first place, I just got it because it was there. On top of that, Ive bought several albums through finding bands on kazaa.

I really cant see this coming to the UK for a while.

Although if it does, at least every 12 year olds parents will be so broke that they wont be able to pay for their DAoC subs and therefore Excalibur will become a better and mroe happy place. Plus people wont LD all the time because they are downloading in the background...

If the record companies and artists didnt demand so much dosh for the shat they turn out then id say yes, but seeing assholes like J-lo spend more cash on botty wipes than i earn in a lifetime makes me wanna puke.

Just look at the artists who all got together to rave about music piracy; like Emimen, Madonna, Elton John and j-lo who are all so frikken filthy stinking rich why should they give a rats arse? Hypocrits!

When CDs were launched, they cost around £15 a pop, back then I paid £10 for a single CDR, so I could see the comarision. Now i pay £0.26p for a blank disk, yet CDs have only dropped to half the price, justify that?!?

Smaller bands I have symapthy with, but at the same time the record companies are still raking in massive profits. Pah.

As for software, ill pay for it if I feel i get value for money (hence no MS product), like DiskKeeper,Zone alarm, McAfee, Norton, MMJB, Paintshop Pro (JASC) and DAoC. Although I did buy win 98SE :p

If its value for money or a solid decent peice of kit i dont mind forking out for it. This goes for Albums too (all my Linkin Park are proper :great: )

It *should* not be, it *is*.

Sad thing is, that people are still trying to hide behind their pseudo arguments of "too expensive" "poor quality" or "never would have bought it in the first place". They´re doing that to sedate their own concience, so they don´t have to think about the fact that they´re actually doing something illegal. Therefor, they´re trying to bend and twist the facts into something semi-legal.
Another thing is, that a good number of people aren´t even aware of what they´re doing. They know how to switch on their PC and where to start Kazaa and that´s about it. Sounds scary, but there are LOTS of those people.
Downloading music and software indeed kills companies. I`m a gamedesigner and I know the situation on the market these days and how hard it is to stay alive. Not because the products are bad, not because the prices are so ridiculously high, but because every man and his dog is merrly burning CD`s like there was no tomorrow.

I think you may have missed an important point.
The prices people pay for this stuff is high, because record companies will charge as much as people will pay.

The price argument is not some sort of delusional cover it is very real. People spend a hell of a lot of cash on music, not least because of the celebrity culture in which people are encouraged to worship increadibly rich people and to belive they deserve all the money they get.

People still spend more money than they have. It's like they say "you can't get blood out of a stone" You can't sell music to someone who's out of overdraft.

There's so much stuff available that if you're not someones favourite, noone will have any money left by the time they get round to you.
