just wondering because i saw a post in silent death's forum last night about it, so i decided to have a look and when i found out about the player run environment, the ability to create your own villages/towns/cities/citadels etc... for your guild/yourself i have to say it looks very nice on that side of things, like another post in that thread says, you could have an assassins guild who have their own village in the middle of some deep enchanted forest, who could get contracted out to kill various high ranking guild members for cash etc...

If you get found i suppose you could simply burn the village and move the guild somewhere else before anyone else could bring a force to get revenge on the hand that had willingly been the tool of a guilds demise etc... then rebuild the village perhaps in some high unexplored mountain where nobody would look for you or something.

basically what i'm saying is that it's interactive, and that counts because daoc really isnt, there's no particular way to do anything which will change realm balence, in shadowbane you can lay waste to entire countries and hold them undersway, you can climb the political ladder and rule a half decent kingdom fighting off the swords and poisons of opposing guilds trying to make headway into your lands etc... in daoc you have the main game in a nice little boxed off area where you can't do anything to it if your an enemy realmer, the only effect you can have is on some sterile keeps (in sterile frontiers with nothing in them) that really aren't gonna be missed anyway :p

now i like daoc, and tbh i think it's done excellently, stable, nice looking, enjoyable for quite a while, but i want something a little less shallow i think, so i was just wondering if anyone else is considering going to shadowbane once it arrives.

of course, this is IF (and a bloody big IF at that) shadowbane isnt just pants :) it could totally flop of course, but if it actually works out to be good then who's thinking of it? some bad things i've seen though are stuff like the graphics...or lack of them, the game really doesnt "look" nice at all compared to camelot, gotta hope they change that further into development.

and no this isn't a "daoc is shit, i think your all full of crap for playing it" karam type post, just a genuine interest about who i may see in other games after the next set of them come around :)

answers on a postcard, and include some nice happy little piccies with 'em please :D, and if you say some REALLY good things about shadowbane you might just win a prize wooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!11 :D (and yes i do think that little marketing scheme is worthy of utter comtempt).

oh and one other thing, if you dont like daoc anymore, bored, sick of leveling etc... and are planning on leaving but dont like shadowbane then what are you thinking of going too? allways interested in whether there's anything better so feel free to add those comments too :)

The longer a game has been in development, the harder it is to even make an educated guess about how good or bad it will be when (if) it is finally released, and Shadowbane has been under construction for years.

Like SWG, I will wait and see. I want to read some reviews of how much fun the game play is (or isn't). I want to hear how stable the client is (or isn't). I want to hear how reliable the game servers are (or aren't).

Shadowbane is still months away, so there's plenty of time yet to wait and see.

oh yes there's the stability issues to consider, no matter how good a game is you can't get away from the fact that if the servers are unstable then it's not worth playing, it'll just be too damn frustrating.

And about the "see you in shadowbane comment" :), i'm not leaving daoc yet, still want to try mana spec when respec comes, but i have to say i'm losing interest pretty fast. will maybe stay for SI though, but i doubt much longer than that, like silverdrop recently said just before he left the game: "the way they've done spell crafting and alchemy just seems like just another way to waste peoples time having to craft for ages and rake in the subscription cash" :(

aaaaanyway :) shadowbane doesnt look like it's coming out for ages yet so plenty of time to see what it's gonna be like, i hope the game works out well (and hope to god it's gonna look better graphically, anyone seen those 'tactical' screenies? eyugh!), but i'll still be around for a while to come yet :)

Many people have told me that the Shadowbane developers are trying to get the backend and gameplay worked out first and doing the graphic engine last. That makes a lot of sense to me; if you spend eighteen months perfecting a state of the art graphics engine, and then two more years making your game servers go, then by the time you are ready to release the game your state of the art graphics engine... isn't. But it means that the screenshots of your alpha and beta testing look awful. Another reason to wait and see.

But I will play a good game with crappy graphics... and nothing in the world will make me play a boring game with amazing graphics.

I still like DAoC .. I'm not bored with it and am not thinking of quitting ... but I will definitely be taking a look at Lineage II - http://www.lineage2.com/main_eng.html . I played Lineage for over a year, and it was a great 2d game. Lineage II just blows my li'l sockies right off! Take a look at some of the movies.

agree, loads of people were duped into buying max payne because of the amazing screenies, sure the game looked sort of nice but it had to have been THE most boring, shallow and uninteresting thing i've ever played, i never even managed to finish the demo due to lack of interest :( on the other hand i still play the snes version of zelda every now and then on an emulator :) love that game :D, hardly graphically superb by today's standards but entertaining as hell :m00:.

glad to hear about the graphics though, if they're still gonna do work on them later then i guess it stands as good a chance as anything when it comes to looking nice, all i need is it to look as nice as daoc and i'm perfectly happy :) dont need some uber next gen effects, just has to look "nice".
