Does have anyone have experience with this? I've managed to get gmail working with little effort, but my work email runs off Exchange Server and no matter what I do I can't get it to work. I've tried the company that maintains the server but they will only support company-owned Blackberrys, which I don't have and refuse to be helpful.

I can get into the web access through the browser on my phone but this is slow and 'clunky'. I just want to be able to go into the messaging bit and hit 'get and send' and download the headers for any new emails I receive from this account like the gmail one.

I'm an email noob (as can probably be seen by some of the terminology above :)) so any help appreciated! (if it's even possible)

PS - the email configurator app on the SE website doesn't help much.

Well it does have Symbian on board ain't it?
Am not confident that u can work with an Exchange server in native mode (ie RPC or RPC over HTTP), so u'll have to rely on using it as a Pop3 or Imap server. I'd go for Imap tbh, seeing as u don't wont to download all the shit u normally get (it downloads only headers and the full message pnly if u open it).

Thanks Gahn - yes it does have Symbian (UIQ3). Having looked a bit harder I've found that the ActiveSync app is actually on the install cd that came with the phone. Am trying to set it up but it keeps telling me the server name is wrong even though I categorically know that it isn't (i've taken it straight out of outlook options and also have spoken to one of the admins that maintains the server). Grr :(

If u gonna use it just for the 1st synchro of your PC cached Outlook, u can just use the USB connection to pc and then see if u can reach the server via Wlan or whatever. Ofc my concerns for when u gonna use it in "mobile" mode remains the same ;)

your work email server has to use either push email (exchange 2003 sp2) or some other app thats setup on a work email server to push out the emails to you, you need to provide credentials for your connection, in the activesync app there is a box for that info, but the server that actually provides that functionality is more than likely not the one where your email resides (you have to have your email accunt on that server else it wont work)

the best option is to get blackerry connect software on your phone and get the blackberry.net APN provisioning on your mobile sim card.

Push email is just an IMAP extension. There are other email systems that provide it to compliant client devices (such as the blackberry, and a lot of other smartphones). Exchange/blackberry just happens to be the easiest pair of vendors to pick because everything is so easy to set up.
