Server Abuse, where do Game stand ?

Ok seems like a silly question but I've just spent half an hour on one of the preview servers it was full, which is nice but some of the abuse being given out wasn't.

Friendly banter it may have been but it was bordering on racism, I understand that when players from different nations get together it can lead to comments being made, some in jest but when the server is full of peeps typing stuff like - 'F##k the English', 'French are sh#t' it goes a bit beyond banter.

Needless to say the cross nation abuse didn't really spoil my game although I did have to turn off the ingame voice comms.

Racism is completely unacceptable from our point of view.

In future take screenshots and if possible a demo for along with their information (Damn steam). And then submit this to the head GM or GM for that mod.

It will not be tolerated.

I'd say the C&C rules that apply to these forums should certainly apply to the servers as well?

Typical, ignorant french bashing. All this "Speak english pls, it's an english server" crap pisses me off and is usually started by the munters. I'd like to see a temp. ban for this behaviour personally. When was the last time you were in a foreign country and spoke the language? I'll put money on never.

Unfortunately it goes hand in hand with the mentality of the people who play this game.

To play devil's advocate here, it is not just restricted to English players. I have been on many servers where it also works the other way.

But the point that it is not acceptable, which ever direction it comes from still stands.

I don't speak.

I touch myself.

(but only if leggy or trem is on the server.)

I understand the comments about the language barrier and in truth I live here and don't speak very good English let alone French or German but there are a few phrases that I've picked up.

To clarify the situation there were only two English speaking players on the server at the time, me being one of them. The main protagonists of the abuse were two German speaking players on Voice Comms who were baiting the french speaking players, myself and the other English speaking player. I asked the other English speaking player not to retaliate after they made a comment over voice comms, they left the server shortly after I spoke to them.

I know this is all academic as I didn't take any screenies or run a demo, my mistake but not one I'll repeat. Whatever happend to the international language of gaming ?

Cs I would assume. Speaking for myself I have warned for this and banned on the preview server already. People quickly get the idea.

muting them is the best way if they aren't contributing any useful info and you just want to get on with playing.

After hearing some of the things you lot can come out with, I am always more worried about whats going to come out of the regulars mouths than the Foreign users of the preview servers. Either way, whoever does it is violating the T&C and should be dealt with accordingly.

I had that recently! I asked them politely to speak English and they just went of on one and were very abusive!

Also I think Maljonic has the best Idea! :)

Erm, you think maybe that they went off on one because you asked them to speak English? Please tell me where it states that English must be spoken on the GAME.NET servers. When I play on Euro servers they don't demand or ask that I speak x language. It is very irritating to be told to do so.

/me enters conversation :)
There is no requirement for people to speak english on the Game.net servers or not, Id simply use the mute button :)
However , on lots of the servers I play on there is such a requirement, and it doesn't seem such a bad thing to me I have to say.
I play VC for example on the GanG servers from time to time, although they are hosted by BW they are still run by French people, so it would be rude (and pointless !) of me to start shouting and screaming in English.
At the same time, we have loads of people on our clan server from non-english speaking countries, Sweden and Holland to name but two, and those people all make the effort to speak English, as it is an English server.
What Im saying is that there is no requirement for people to speak English on the Game.net servers, and so as an admin I wouldnt try to make people do so, however it may be that there should be.

I think it's a courtesy to speak the language of whichever host you're on espeacially if you actually speak the lingo but I can't say im a fan of telling people or enforcing that they must speak english.

However, abuse wise, it would surely be easier to admin a server if all concerned speak the same language.

Since Game.net servers dont (thankfully) enforce this particular rule, are there any bilingual or multinational admins?

Well Throddy is French, and he can speak English(just), so I guess Throddy is multilangual.
(hmmm multilangual...is that a word or did I make it up?)

I personally think its total arrogance to expect someone to speak your language just because they are playing a game on a server located near you.

I speak Japanese, but I don't think that's a situation that will crop up much on the servers. :)

Why ?
if someone posted a question on here about Steam, in French for example, what use would that be ? Bugger all.
Its a UK-based GSP, so English is the language we use. Its not a big deal really.

If someone is abusing you in a language you can't understand, is it still abuse... sorry, I was going all Japanese and Zen. :)

It's neither here nor there anyway, as i said , I dont believe its Game.net policy to tell me what language to scream at people in, so feel free to carry on chaps ;)
For imformation by the way, to mute people now with Steam you have to press escape, go to player list and mute in there .
