Serious question

Dear all, this is serious... my God, I'm actually going to post without mentioning love children, sheep or how much Jobbie loves his big AUG.

Anyway, Buffy has a quite serious problem with CS. It seems that his shots aren't registering half of the time. I didn't believe it myself as we normally play on the same servers and I don't have any problems other than being lame.

BUT, the continuous shouting and ranting from his room finally got so annoying last night it made me go and watch him play for a bit (well, an hour).

Basically whenever he shoots (with the crosshair over someone, and yes, it is small with no recoil to begin with) half the time the shots actually don't hit. We don't know why, it can't be lag as I find it all fine and we both use the same ISDN connection.

He's got a decent PC (3Dmark 4000 odd) and yes, he is a reasonable player. Aim isn't a problem as he does fire 'at' people, i.e. crosshair on their heads, etc., fps is set at 99 aswell as modem too in the config.

Any ideas? Pls, I don't think I can take anymore:

Is his config the same as yours?
And try net_graph 3.Maybe he's getting a lot of choke and "loosing" bullets as it were.
I've had a lot of that the last few days.

Check your configs, also are you sharing the same ISDN line or do you have seperate ones?

Yeah ch3tan we use the same ISDN connection, split thru my machine using Internet Connection Sharing (grrr useless)

What thodgrain said is about the closest i can get to explaining it, it just seems to be bullets disappear, especially when i try and unload more than say 3 bullets, then most of them just dont register, even when the guys is right in front of me! :(

Is there nething in the config that I shud be particularly aware of, it wudnt be nething to do with the fact that I'm the server for the house wud it?

its a 128k connection btw

Not a great deal of help, but I can put a whole clip, at close range, into someone, and they turn round and shoot me with one bullet and Im dead:mad: But thats cos Im a sad 56ker.:(

i have that problem on jolt servers, thats why i dont play them, shoot a full clip and hit nowt,

Buffy just copy dollys rate, cl_updaterate, cl_cmdrate over,

ermm no ignore that, dont copy dollys ffs, copy killers, or you could even have mine,

you dont have cl_lc & cl_lw set to 0 do you?

i tried this and couldnt hit shit

this is my rate settings

rate is 7500
cl_updaterate 40
cl_cmdrate 55
cl_latency - 39

gimme your email addy and i will send you my config, just look at it and copy what you need, i found it best to tinker around untill i found one i was comftable with.

you sh33p use irc?

if so i will be on tonight, i will send it then if you want it.

Strangley enough last night i was playing with cl_lc & cl_lw set to 0,and also nopred 1 in an attempt to recreate q2-style lag :)
I must say I played the best I've done in ages ! I'm going to stick with it I think.It makes the game a bit more jumpy,sometimes i noticed my frame rate moving as well , which is something that never ever happens normally,but i'm going to persevere ,cos its what I'm used to really .

Surely as they are sharing the connection they should both lower their rate, cmndrate and updaterate setttings?

Especially rate.

Also are playing with or without prediction?

Cheers for all the help lads. Last night I got home quite ratted to find Buffy reinstalling CS at 2:30 am in the morning.

Heh, the boy NEEDS CS to work ;)

how do u get ur FPS to like 99
mine's on 60ish and im on a G-Force II 400 MX fingy or sommit along those lines :p

PLLEEEEEEEEEEASE someone help, must have betta FPS than me m8's apparently "godlike machine"

cheers for the help guys, the reinstall seems to have helped although I'll wait and c on that.

as for how u get 99fps, besides the obvious of "buy a better graphics card", u want to make sure that both fps_max and fps_modem are set to 99 in ur config

The reason why you cant hit shit on jolt is because they insist on running sv_unlag 0 which = stupidest command ever, and for lans only.

ISDN configs :O)

I recommend the following settings:

rate "6999.98765"
cl_lc "1"
cl_lw "1"
cl_updaterate "25"
cl_cmdrate "60"
ex_interp "0.05"
ex_extrapmax "2"
ex_maxerrordistance "0"
ex_correct "1"


Dissappearing bullet syndrome is usually Choke and/or packet loss. Having your updaterate set tooo high will usually choke your connection up.. but a decent isp could cope with a higher value. Keep an eye on net_graph 3 and if your getting 0loss 0choke try raising your updaterate. Turning off the prediction code doesnt really help much tbh, but its a question of personnal tastes spose.
