right, this is strictly serious (although i am open to pisstaking).

i am interested in buddhism and have had a look at it. i cannot find any decent source though that can really instruct on becoming a buddhist if you were not born one.

so, if anyone here IS a buddhist then i would be grateful if you can PM me and possibly talk to me about it.

taking into account possible piss taking i will start if offf -

lol.

In my opinion it is not so much necessary to belong to a group, to be able to call yourself religious. It is far more important to actually believe in what you believe. For me all religions have parts I believe and parts I don't. If I would have to lable myself it would indeed be closest to buddhism but my main drive is merely to do right and to do no harm. To have respect (and act accordingly) towards all life.

Joining a religious group doesn't necessarily make you religious.

I don't understand why you would want to belive anything except when you have seen evidence that it is true. Belief should not be a choice, rather a reasoned decision.

Call me Mr Logic if you will :)

tbh i would call buddhism a philosophy of life rather then a religion, but it is by far the so called "religion" that i accept the most for what you are trying to achive.

also, there are different kinds of buddhism, and i think like half of the world's buddhists worship buddah as a god, and in tibet they even worship the reincarnation of buddah.

im not budist, but one time when i meditated witha buddist i had a wierd trip, was awesome, however i preffer my own meditating style.

she was rather strict buddist id say, if there is one, as in lived in a convent or whatever and in a buddist community (a world affirming one)

well it does seem to be a good and worthy following but tbh most of the people i've met who call themselves budists are complete arseholes all this "oh no im like totally enlightened and just soo much better than everyone else" marlarkey does tend to get on ones tits.

just watch a few episodes of monkey and rent that episode of the simpsons where lisa goes off and meets richard gere and youll be sorted.

though i am wondering why you'd be in to this, i have to warn you they may have rules against wanking bro.

I shall take this opportunity and take teh piss:

Just shave your head, wear your moms orange drapes and go hang at the nearest airport. Insta buddhist, just add flyers :D

But seriously, the net is filled with info on it and if you are really serious, find your local buddhist "office" and talk it out.

What i understand about it is that it IS more of a lifestyle then a religion, allthough it is a seriously taken religion as any.

at the base, and honestly, all practitioners of a religion see it as a lifestyle not a religion, atleast the humbling ones that i speak to do. When i ask about the religions i never get a enlightened response, more like

"its just a path i follow, not because i want to, but because it is me" - Think this was a rasta (the lifestyle i personally feel most affiliation with)

again, same buddist as before was very encouraging of any spiritual beliefs that aim for peace and harmony, surely that alone is enlightenment. They have there own belief system, if someone doesnt understand you, explain and teach, dont turn your back on the world (like emos do). If you reach enlightenment you wont be born again, but will pass over to another side i think, or will just rest peacefully + eternally, not sure as i dont know too much about the religion. But it isnt a choice as such as a being.
