Serious question about SI

I have been looking all over and have yet to find any info about when we will get SI. I know on the American site it says "late fall". However with the people at GOA still working on patching us to 1.52 I don't see that happening. Especially since we are not getting any info from them about it.

So when realistically do you think we will get it? This is NOT a thread to flame GOA or cs...I am just really curious.

Kemor could you please answer? Even if its a I'm not really sure, I would like to know.

Thanks!

My guess would be March. Seems reasonable doesnt it? Not what I'd want, but it's most likely.

would have to agree with this would be nice to ahev it this winter what with the cold lonely nights you could play DAOC and warm yourself by the fire of a dragon (hey nice advertising slogan can just see the cartoon now for the tv with the knight getting toasted :D)

but yeah march/spring next year would be my estimates.

I reckon a May release as the conversion process will be huge.

ffs... they should translate it on the fly as it is being done. I mean one could start already now and thus shave off a month or two :(

They can't start translation until Mythic have final code and that won't happen until at least the end of November. You can't translate beta code, because every revision means you have to go right back through millions of lines of data looking for changes. Also GOA haven't actually signed up to take SI yet, so don't count your chickens before they are hatched. SI is at least 5 times more new code than the 1.49 patch that introduced Darkness Falls. There is no way on God's green earth GOA can translate that and properly test it in under 4 months, just not going to happen.

Well since Mythic now sell Camelot to more that just GOA they might just might have made sure that all text that are displayed to players are just variables (like they should have been from the beginning), As i have understood it all items are referd to by their realname "toe bone belt" is named "toe bone belt" every where and not item-id$2344 as would have been alot more flexible in a multi lingo envoirment.

that would give a list entry in the end of the src or a file/db like

id lingo1 lingo2 lingo3
item-id$2344 "Toe bone Belt" "Toe bone rajja" "Toe bone yadda"

And i cant understand why o heavens earth they have to change the name of all items in the whole game? For Korea yes but for EU? all of us have atleast some basic skills in English.

I remember some German players from the beta, who could barely use words like: hello, pull, heal... etc.

(on the whole, Germans seem to know English better then the French. I guess English is compulsory in German schools?)

If people are paying for a 'localised' version of the game, they should have everything translated to their language. For instance, some drops have nice names, like most DF loot. While it sounds cool in english, if it was in german, it would sound like gibberish to me and lose half it's appeal.

imo- Mythic should be involved in the EU side of things as well. We have almost half the number of US servers... but that is still a significant amount.

How I understand it, is, with the main game, they translated it from American to French and German, then French and German to English.... except they didn't, as valour is still spelt valor in DAoC Europe. Imbeciles. Why don't they just either give us the bloody American version when the americans get it, or translate it into actual English, not American.

Oh yes, I forgot... GOA are running things over here...

Shrouded Isles is currently scheduled to ship on 12/10/2002
Of course this is 10th Dec. '02 for those of us who use what I like to term 'proper dates' (*coughYanks*)

So this is also no doubt the US release. Not sure if Imports might work, or indeed if the Euro severs will be ready to support it in time... (/em mumbles)

So, exciting stuff..

Stuff the new Classes, Races, Abilities, - Just imagine - you can play the game for more than 1 hour without the GFX forcing relogs / lag etc thanks to the newly updated NetImmerse engine (wooo!) That alone will make it worthwhile (we hope)!

Where did I see the date?

http://www.camelot-seer.com

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/A...7979545-9672925

And for those of you asking 'wtf is Shrouded Isles?'

http://www.shroudedisles.com

http://www.computerandvideogames.co...ry.php?id=82119

Now where did I put my credit card....

GFX Engine: No Translation
New Classes: No Translation
New Races: No Translation
New Cities: No translation

get the picture?

things like new gfx doesnt't need translating (i think/hop) - but new quests, mobs, etc. etc. do

so im guessing the only thing they need to translate is the new quests and mob names for the new zones.

*crosses his fingers*

GOA = 1 patcher / 3 language servers

i.e. You cannot update one without updating the other.

The only thing the French learn is
a. Don't eat our beef
b. Our sheep are flammable
c. To resent us for owning their asses for most of the renaissance.

I think i know how theyve done it:

Mythic had the English/American version of the software, and decided that it was too American for the british. They then gave the code to a programmer with an english/french french/english dictionary and he got to work.

Once he had finished it, they then take away the guys French/English English/French dictionary, and replace it with a French/German German/French one for it to be, once again, translated litteraly. After all this, they then get this poor confused american a German/English English/German dictionary and a slap on the back for all his hard work over the past 7 or eight hours to the deadline... :D

And voila... DAoC-Europe...

:twak:
