Serial Cable Length

What's the maximum length of a serial cable?

I've been looking to buy a couple of null modem serial cables (9 pin female to 9 pin female); One around 5-6 meters, and one around 10 - 12 meters. So far I've not found anything longer than 3 meters. Is this because that length of cable is out of 'spec'?

Anyone know of an online supplier of these things? I've checked all the usual suspects, and Google doesn't suggest anything that looks suitable.

Cheers.

The length of the cable should be fine, this guide suggests that 50ft is the maximum length so you are well within that. As for ready made cables, I checked with our works suppliers and they don't seem to do ones over 3m either.

It looks as though home made cables is the only answer, the guide above does give the pin outs though.

Thanks for that.

Looks like I'll have to knock them up myself then.

I believe it's old parrallel cables that you have to be especially careful about the length, simply by design you can't exceed something rather small - possibly 1 meter off the top of my head.
