so far you havnt posted a thing that matters, i found a link on a site that said it was the coc so i posted the link since it was related to what was being discussed. dont see how thats acting like a kid after your posts so far. If you dont care why waste our time posting then, as for your lame reply about checking facts thats why i posted the link so anyone could look at them for their selfs, but thats clearly to hard for you to understand.
End the day if you dont want your account and someone else does its up to the two partys if they want to take a chance, if you dont want to play anymore then you have nothing to lose, the person buying or taking over the account should know that taking over an account could cause a problem and its their risk.
by the way your all under arrest anyone thats sold a game in a shop or lent it to a mate.

And if you can't grasp the importance of posting VALID links to Codes of conduct, well then you are beyond any kind of help. In the end it COULD (although unlikely, but still possible) cause other people to do things that are not allowed in the game, and therefore cause them to be suspended, or banned. But I guess you don't care as usual..? Bah, I'm wasting my time trying to talk some sence into you...

You know, if I had made that post, I would simply had said "I'm sorry" and then it would all be over with. Being grown up gives you perspective enough to acknowledge when you are wrong. I have many times had to do that because of misunderstandings or just because I didn't know all the facts. Just keeping this discussion going makes you look more silly.

100 dollars is bugger all for a lev 50 account. Even if they have only done straight levelling that takes at least 10 days play. $10 dollars for 24 hours 'work' is bugger all.
I sold my UO account for 300 POUNDS... and that was still pretty low for everything u got with it.
And yes I KNOW selling your account is against the ROC blah blah blah.

GOA/Mythic are missing out on money here
think about it all they have to do is change the COC
and make a web site that allows you to change the accounts to some one else for how ever much and they cahrge a £20 admin fee. that way everyone is happy even GOA/Mythic
they are missing out on an untapped revenue.
we know that selling accounts is going to happen
they know it is going to happen
why don't they jsut step in and make it so it ahppens smoothly
i maen if i knew that mythic were involved then i would probably pay it. as it stands now i could pay it but then i have no come back if i get nothing.....
???

Exactly ditty! OSI did that kind of thing with UO so I really don't see what Mythic/Goa's problem is.

Point is, Mythic did in the start allow selling accounts. In fact they publicly stated so. What they didn't allow was selling in-game items for real life money.
But then you had this case - which changed it all...
So this is why it's not legal to sell accounts anymore.
Basically what happened was a group of people using cheats/macros to make level 50 accounts in a couple of hours, then sell them for profit.
This would ruin the game for most, wouldn't you say?
Personally, I find it sad that people would spend money on a level 50 account - but might be that's just me...
And Monkeynutter, I'm not Klan Nidstang - but I'd say that if someone pointed out (and proven) that I had given out wrong info, I'd just apologise... But then I'm a grey haired sleazy old man...

its the best option is to have an offical change over option then people for any reason can change hands of accounts it cant be that hard to intruduce and its hardly going to be used enough to cause any admin problems.

My first post was only a correction, with a little "Please don't...." sprinkled on top. What did upset me was the flame I got for it. But let's please forget that now...
I long considered whether or not I should mail Warcry on this matter or not, after all our game is released by Goa, not Mythic. But I now decided that since it is quoted even here I might as well send a mail, which I just did. If/when I get an answer I will post it here if you want to.

but like i said above i do not see why mythic and goa do not lay down some ground rules for the exchange of account and charge admin fees for doing it..

if the person is just changing the bank details there is no admin charges since you can just do this yourself anyway.
Before anyone says about its mythics policy not goa i doubt if goa going to do things differently to main company.

I personally think external trading ruins games. Ultima Online was ultimately destroyed for me by E-bay. How can you compete with people who can simply buy the castles, the weapons, the characters? All men are created equal, but those with bigger bank balances are especially so.
The world of uo was completely ruptured by its reluctance to stop trading. People standing by the bank selling items by their e-bay number for example... The entire financial system of the land was destroyed by the fact that you could now translate UO gold into real life US dollars. Those people that say "Well, I worked damn hard to get that account to GM/Level 50, I deserve some returns!" just piss me off. You were never *employed* to do that. You freely and voluntarily gave up your time to play a game. Note the words there... Play and Game.
If people choose to sell their account and people choose to buy it, fair play, but nobody has any rate to whinge that GOA don't condone it or to complain if there thread gets editted to oblivion in here, because I personally feel GOA are doing this to safeguard the integrity of the game.

your right about that, someone did mention seems to be original intention of the coc was due to stop some abusing the system so to speak. i dont have any wish to sell or buy but just think you should be able to hand over if you wish even for a legit reason like giving it to a mate as long as no one is trying to use the same copy of the game on two machines.

I think they are now developing a MMPORG game where you pay money into the game and therefore everything you buy in the game is bought for real money. You can actually make a lot of money if you have a good ingame trade etc....
But this game and especially this server is virtually untouched by Ebay, its unoticable so theres nothing to complain about really. I remember Asherons Call where my friend could easily make £1000 in a week selling cash that was being produced automatically through a macro... So you cant really blame the people as they are taking advantage of an oppourtunity, its up to the company to put things in place to stop this happening. Mythic have done it very well. Ie, 0 exp from grey cons makes it virtually impossible to make decent leveling macros..

Just to clarify a few things here:
1. The CD-key is used to install the game and also to register an account.
2. You CANNOT use the same CD-key to register 2 accounts. Upon entering the CD-key you will be told that it has already been used if there is an account registered under it already. This causes problems with computer games stroes such as Game and EB which have a 10 Day Money Back Guarantee. People buy the game, register an account and then leave the game back for whatever reason (either legal or illegal). Game and EB then repackage the game and re-sell it, meaning that someone can buy a copy of the game which has had its CD-key used already.
3. You can run any account on any copy of the game on any PC, regardless of whether the CD-key on that copy matches the one you signed up with or not. The CD-key is not used other than to load up the game and to register an account. I often load up my different accounts on different PC's depending on which character I want to play and which character I want to leech/stand around in a highly popular newbie area looking P+++
