Selling body parts

read a story the other day about the black market trade of people selling their own body parts in return for cash. got me wondering what others may think on it being illegal, and why it should be illegal.

oh well, the question was going to be "do you agree on it being illegal" with the options yes and no. can some sexy mod add the poll?

its legal in quite a few countries with state run clinics carrying out the procedure. Generally its for kidneys since there's not much else you can do without without too much hassle.

I think it's bit of a bad idea, in that it encourages people to be slightly more reckless since they know they have (eg £5,000) at their disposal whenever they want. I think its no different to pawning stuff (except that there's an even lower chance you wont get it back with a kidney, although its not impossible) which is generally the domain of drug addicts or those with severe financial troubles.


/edit - in a country as rich as the UK with a relatively low unemployment rate, there really should never be a need to sell a kidney or other lump to get out of financial trouble. A lot of people these days spend on credit cards like theres no tomorrow - and frankly, they deserve whatever trouble they get into.

I think that if people want to go selling parts of thier body they should be allowed too, however they should be exempt from ever being able to recieve a transplant should thier other bodily part fail.
