Selfishness?

While playing alts over the past few days i have noticed one big difference from playing my main sleet a few months back for PvE.

In more than one group a similar problem has happened.

Ill try for an example.

Sprag den, 7 members in group. 1 space. a shade asks to join, he/she is told yeah, sure m8 come join us, he/she replies brt in 5 mins.

shortly after a bard/druid/enchanter or any other popular class asks to join.... then in /group, i see, dump the shade for this guy?

Are people forgetting that we play with real people? is it forgotten others have feelings? this poor guy comes out to join us only to be told...FO really....(this purely an example)

Whether im playing with someone within 2ft of me, or 1000 miles, they still a person who function the same as me.

Maybe i have just had some bad experiences recently, but seems weird, in 6 months of lvling my main i never saw this behaviour really, but now it seems regular.

A new influx of cocks? beats statistics, only result is selfishness....to those who fall under this..... go get a night out on the town and get laid and then see if it means anything special to you who joins your group and whether they are beneficail or not. Might make a real friend if you went that way.

Yeah...

This is partly what I meant with my Men Behaving Badly thread. Because they do. The minute people don't have to actually face each other, they shaft each other - because they don't have to see the disappointment and hurt they cause. That happens somewhere else, so no need to feel guilty about it.
People suck, and it's not getting any better than this.
But still, I somehow keep on hoping... and that's why I get pissed off so often :)

aye, when you are doing the XP treadmill you really do come accross some strange individuals.. I just keep a small list of players that have been out of order and I make a point of not grping with them again.

Imo u also have to remember that when u are a "lowlvl" u get alot of tells if u are in Spraggon Den (just an example) and u w8 and u w8.. and the person doesnt show up .. when u finally PM the guy he isnt coming (either this could be due to LD, or got a "better" grp or just cuz he logged).. and when u have tried this a few times, u tend to go with what u have in front of u.. dont think it has anything to do with being an NS in particular.

But IF u look at the overall picture of what benefits a grp.. who would honesly say that a Chanter isnt more valuable then a NS at those lvls ?? (I aint saying that I agree, but look at it from a grps perspective)

Maybe the guy says:"I'll be there in 5" .. 10 mins l8er u are still w8ing.. and a more "useful" class chr. shows up and asks for a grp.. I would take him in for sure.. why hold 7 ppl up for 1 person when u have 1 person at hand who is rdy to go ?!? (do keep in mind that this scenario has a inc. player that hasnt been heard from in 10 mins)

Im not condoning what ppl do, but I understand why.. been there, done that.. got tired of it

And to be honest, some classes contribute more to a grp at those lvls then others ..

just my silly oppinion..

If u dont agree, call some1 who cares... I dont ;)

Sounds really then you are just the sort of guy we are talking about...you just don't care who you discard to make your xp....

Personally I prefer to play with a bit more integrity.....

So you been there and got the tea shirt...woopee doo...so have I on another server....just don't forget there is still a second wave out there that hasn't.

Those of us that are doggedly moving our chars towards 50 do not need that sort of attitude from you guys that are already 50 and can't be bothered to be understanding with your alts.

Hmmm..my first flame ever...whats the world coming to?

Think fairness is important, if I've told someone to come join the grp and 2 people turn up cos someone in grp invited and didn't tell the grp leader then I usually give up my spot.

If this guy was told he could come alone it would be grossly unfair to say, "actually m8, we think a chanter would be much nicer, now sod off", if you have a space and want a chanter, find one, otherwise make do with it and realise that every nice act is as rewarding as the game itself.

I've been avoiding random xp grps a lot of lately so I don't know the current state of affairs, I prefer guild grps, not cos I earn better, faster xp but because it's a lot of fun and no arguements over drops, xp etc

Last time I took a random xp grp with a friends account there was a lvl 36 eld or something who was asking for a grp in innis, he was persistent but not rude and our beloved grp leader was enormously rude to the guy, swore once and yelled for everyones benefit he was officially ignoring the eld, excessive and basically humiliating, people do forget the depths their actions can reach sometimes :(

Fraid this is true in game, some characters simply do not register that the other player is a real person, and not just some AI bot to be abused.

Recent experiences i have had have been a lot more nasty than i have ever known....i never used (or had to use) the /ignore command until recently, in last 2 months have been spam abused three times from players coz i couldnt get them into my group, twice coz group was full, third time coz group had decided to call it a day and disbanded. The abuse i got was very colourful to say the least, and this is from peeps who pm'd me to ask for a spot, i tell them no, sry but..... then they kick-off.

Im not in the habit of name-and-shame, but several of these players belong to guilds who i hold in high regard for the quality and decency of their players.

I have to agree with Censi, just /ignore em and carry on.

fuck em all

be true to yourself and pity those who are caught up in there own insecurites that all they get out of life is what they scrape from it

i gave up on the human race long ago ... still .. theres a few of us who are smart and were the ones who dont need recognition for the good we do :)

gets frustrating constantly forgiving / understanding other peoples behaviour but in the end they arent worth it

one of the primary reasons i dont like grping outside of guild, alot of the lower lvls think they know best and only want to make leet grps. my first char in hib i soloed more or less to 40 i figure anyone who has lvled past 30 has a good idea how the game plays and realises u dont need a set template for a grp just remember though there are always gonna be assholes on any game some more than other *points to counter-strike* its just best to note these ppl down and avoid them.

On chanters versus nightshades -- the strongest solo class in Hib needs neither favours or precedence over anyone. And I dare anyone calling a 41 shade tanking warshades without a warden useless.

On players lacking basic politeness -- in other news, water remains wet. Only way I've found around it is grouping mainly with people you know -- guildmates and friends, and the occasional polite stranger.

<psych 101>

A possible thought on reasons for verbal abuse, though: we have huge age-spread in this game, and we have lots of people who know eachother well enough that friendly slander is the norm of communication between them (I can't -begin- to count how many times Auscia and I have told the other they'd best serve the world as a doorstop). There is the possibility that younger players are taking this mud-slinging between friends for a sign that this kind of thing is acceptable to anyone, anywhere.

Then again, I remember someone's little brother, age 14, apologising for the hissy-fit his big brother eldritch threw for not being allowed to join our guild hunt -- so maybe some people just can't log in without going into prat mode.

Inviting someone to fill the last spot in the group when you already have someone incoming for the spot just shows what a retard the groupleader is.

If i have someone incoming for the last spot in my group i don't give a damn if who's standing infront of me, the spot is reserved already, period. and if someone in my group can't deal with my decision as GL, then ask them to leave then and replace the whiner (tends to shut them up most of the time).

As to the tanking abilities of a nightshade i have seen numerous examples where a nightshade have outtanked Speros and LW tanks, at higherlvls the shades got an amazing Evade, and thus have alot better defense than some clumsy LW tank that takes 15 seconds to get their first taunt in (given they miss the first swings). sure the NS gets quite some punishment if the mobs hit them, but usually the healers have no problem to cope with it. in my experiance spear/lw tanks needs more healing than shades, tanks just got a bigger hp-pool, which is good, but the shades evade makes up for it.

And if you have the luxury of a sheidltank in your gorup, have him guard the shade and then u don't need a wardens bubble. (still good tho, but not necessery)

just a point to make on Nightshades behalf, at lvl 40 I was successly holding Black Wraiths in the Bog requiring very little healing due to evades (oh and bubble ;)). - Well holding provding Mage didnt touch um ;)

A Nighshade WILL out taunt any other tank going and so in a pbaoe grp they should be PREFERED (controversial I know) to any other tank - y? Because they can land 3/4 taunts before a Hero/Champ has finished the animation for his first. I constantly see in grps other tanks lose their mobs to a pbaoe I don't think I've ever lost one to a chanters pbaoe. Also in a non pbaoe grp provided u got an end regen going they can do a hella lot of dmg to mobs.

Shades pwn j00!

flame meh :p

shades don't do so well at tanking 2 or more mobs at a time tho, shades can't guard pbers, if shades get double hit, it's bye-bye, or damn close to it

but I've got no problem with shades in my groups at all (hi vodka :p )

just giving some reasons why a shield specced tank might be preferrable

I know the scenario...
I sometimes try to help friends lvl with my druid or chanter, nothing special - when someone messages me - 'Can I join your group ?' - before I even do a /who, I say yeah sure mate.
They arrive - and shortly after bitch and whine about the XP and leave...
Hey, like I care...;)
There are proper arseholes in game - as in real-life. I give everyone a chance - and only put them on the arsehole list when they prove themselves.
As for people joining the grp, I tend to be the one that forms the groups - and if I ask 2 people, coz I don't get an answer from the first - then I will happily give up my slot.
All I'm saying is that there are some really good people in game and some arses, you are unfortunately gonna come across both.
Best advice is be fair, if that doesn't work there is always /ignore - and the arsehole list =)

U forgot protect, intercept, scale! (RF on BM of course), moose (hero), IP (most tanks have it), debuffs (champ), triweild (BM again)

A nightshade makes a good tank in a pb group, but cannot be preferable to a pure tank, sry, but thats what fighters do best, face it. Personally i prefer a nice mix, maybe a hero, champ and shade (hero guarding shade with pbt makes shade unstoppable!).

As for "proper" group make-up, im a BIG advocate of the idea that there is no such thing. There are desirable classes for a group, but any 8 players can make a group work, regardless of class.

If you've got a set of people who know how to play their characters well and are within decent level ranges ( not counting ya leechers ;) )

Any classes can make a viable group, recent examples are a 39 NS playing backup tank on Umber Hulks + Chronic Knights, a 27 champ tanking darrigs, a 24 ranger tanking pookhas + a 32 druid playing main healer in a fins group.

the ideal group is bard/druid/warden/3tanks/2mages but ffs you dont need that when you are low level. the xp comes thick and fast anyway.

seriously, i have been playing before with a friend in the same house, trying to get to lvl 24 with a couple of characters as fast as possible so we could play bg. people would ask to join, i would say ok, and it would slow up the xp, but it wasn't like those people got kicked from our group, i just couldn't do that. i can understand that some people want to lvl, but they should sort out who they are inviting before. tactics like saying someone can join then taking someone better before they show up suck.

as it was, not many wanted to join my group anyway - i was lvling Bob Monkey, the druid specialising in pure nature and you would not believe the ear-ache i got from people who were denied their yellows :p

for anyone thats worried, dont be. Bob is back and hes a little lurikeen ranger again. kinda cute with the stalker moustache - yeah!!

off topic, but hey ;)

In CM pit, try bard/druid/warden/tank/mage/mage/mage/mage :)

mobs dont baf down there so you only need one to hold aggro, preferably an ns ;) heheh

I think its a shame that its got to the point where players only group with friends or guild mates (understandable but a shame). It wasnt like this a year ago when I was last on Hib - people grouped with whoever wanted to. I would often keep a slot open for someone who had to travel and wouldnt give it away to someone closer/better.

Recently we had someone run from sprag den to Pooks but the group disbanded shortly after he got here. I offered to continue with him to help out (he was 24, im 27 I think) but instead he just left, no word (so did the NS). Im not having a pop at them, but waving goodbye would not take long?

Its things like this that make people group with mates/guildees i guess.
