What the hell is 'binge-watching' or 'showrooming'?
According to googles, the first is basically watching a lot of things back to back, e.g. all the episodes in a series. The second is looking at something in a shop then buying it online when you get home.

Why the fuck those things would need to become terms as well I do not understand.

Basically we're now putting new words into the dictionary based on stupid twitter hashtags?!?

I actually have conversations about showrooming quite a lot. Its a big thing in retail circles.

Why not make new words up for things that haven't needed new words in the past?

Its a fucking stupid made up word, that's what it is.

Its one (entirely functional) word to describe "people who come in to store and then go online to buy it (on Amazon)". As we're not German, (Menschendieindenladenkommenunddannonlinegehenumeszukaufen) most of us would prefer a shorthand version of that. That's what words do, get across concepts simply.

Jesus, lot of grumpy old cunts who haven't a bowel movement this morning on here today. Eat some All-Bran and get the stick out of your arses.

I'm sorry was "using us as showroom" so complicated that it required shortening?

If so I propose we shorten "how fucking ridiculous that every sentence in the English language needs to be shortened by some dimwit somewhere" to lolcunts

It (apparently, I haven't come across the word before today) means more than just "looking in a shop" though. You're describing something that takes a sentence in one word. Which equals efficient use of language. What's the big deal?

There is already a word for it, browsing. Its no different from seeing an item in say John Lewis and then buying it from say Argos, it's not like its a new concept and we don't need another word for the exact same thing.

People look at products all over the place and find it cheaper elsewhere, always have, always will...its just easier now. It didn't really require a bunch of arseholes in ironic jumpers to brainstorm a new name for it, the old one is shorter anyway.

Anyway, back to the "Selfie" Its a shortened version of self portrait, obviously. In the same way as "Tellie" still doesn't stop it being dickish.

Browsing doesn't necessarily mean "buying elsewhere", though. I expect in retail worlds it's a specific term for looking at a physical product in a shop and then buying it online. Which isn't covered by browsing.

Yes. Its become a verb.

There is already a word for it, browsing.

No, its not browsing, its buying, usually while you're stood in the store. Its comparison shopping. In the past if someone "browsed" you usually didn't know where they went to buy, now you can see people doing it in front of you, hence the shorthand, and why its a different thing in retail terms, and retailer's responses to it are widely discussed, which is why it gets its own term, so people discussing it are clear what they're talking about.

I really don't understand why either of you have a problem with new words. English adds (and discards) hundreds of the things every year. That's one of the great things about English, and I'm sure you're using hundreds of words your own parents didn't.

This thread is like seeing police officers. Makes you feel even older.

Now if you'll excuse me, I appear to have crushed my ear-trumpet with my zimmer-frame.

My problem with the 'selfie' is that it's almost universally criticised by most hipster blogs and other internet wankers. I was introduced to it by my girlfriend who travels solo quite frequently and has limited option but to photograph herself if she wants some proof of her visit (that's all it is really).

It doesn't make a good photo but there's fuck all wrong with it.

Can we make (or find) a word that means: "something that has become popular and is subsequently castigated by cunts"

OK I'm confused now. We've got some people moaning that Selfie is a hipster thing, and therefore bad, and others moaning that hipsters moan about it, which is bad. Maybe we need a word for "not getting irritated by the internet because I'll be happier that way".

you see this is what i dont get
why the fuck do you need to be in the picture ?

heres a picture, of something , that i took, with my camera.. i dont need to be IN it to prove this, the fact that the picture is in your possession kind of proves this , no ?
and do you really want to have lots of pictures of yourself infront of what youre photographing ? /shrug
surely you can photo yourself at home, so you would want to maximise the view when taking "remember when we went to ... " pics ? not "oh look, another one of me blocking out the view"

maybe im just getting old :(

I was merely responding to the original topic. And the 'moaning' in my case is mostly a function of emotion; a difficult philisophical concept, I know.

I'm happy AND irriated :) - irrated at the internet for becoming a platform for criticism, social media and porn.

I wonder this too - if I go somewhere with an amazing view I want a picture to remember it not whatever I was wearing on that day?

It's also a terribly sheep thing to do.
