Vidx, of course tanks can deliver damage - but it is not the main reason for their presence in any group. PvE and RvR groups work much better when there are mages present. But the place given in any group to a mage who gets resists 3 times out of 4 would be much better taken by someone who can contribute more to that group.
Many people whine and moan about being left out of Wither groups, but people under 46 don't REALLY need to xp there. When you guys reach 46-50 you will get fed up of the place believe me. Use that time below 46 to level other, more interesting, places ... places which levels 46+ have a hard time xping in.
And Teador, I've never, ever, excluded someone from a group based on level. But I do recognise that there is a need to be selective at times ... and that meant I was *never* included in a small man AoE tangler unit. Did I come and bitch and moan that all Albions are evil selfish sods? No, because there is a reason why they xp like that.
I've helped a number of guildees and friends level, even individuals some 20 levels below me ... and I know that a lot of other Albion's have done too.
Whatever realm you play in there will be people you get on with, and people you don't. Best to stick with the devil you know IMO...
