Just got myself a new Netgear Router (WPNT834)

All working fine and very easy/good

I got a card to go in my laptop as well which I’ve just plugged in and immediately it found someone else’s completely unsecured network and logged me on and I can use their internet connection. The SSID was cunningly named linksys so I go to the usual default IP and put in the default login and I’m in to their Router Admin page.

This isn’t really going anywhere but it’s never happened to me before and it’s all rather novel. Anything legal/exciting I can do?

Its amazing how many people have left their wireless routers unsecure when it only takes a few steps to secure it.

There's nothing exciting you can do really. You have full control of their security and internet connection though :/

Yeah, bless 'em

I checked the workgroup but nobody is there at the moment. I think they're students who are probably in class at the mo.

Change their SSID to "icantbebothered" or something to give them a little shove.
