I have a 3D model I would like to circular orbit and get a video of it.

Whats the best way of doing this and is there any free software to capture the image on the screen to output an AVI file of it?

FRAPS show fps, record video game movies, screen capture software I think this software will do what you need not sure if the trial version will let you save the video

Hmm downloaded and installed, however I cant seem to do ANY movies

As far as I know, FRAPS only captures input from 3d apps, e.g. games. If your app's not directly using the 3d hardware on your graphics card then I don't think FRAPS will record it.

I've tested it on a 3d house design app and it only captures the 3d view window.

Camtasia works well for screen capping stuff.
