Screen flickering

I recently got myself an A grade recertified 19 inch screen which is definitely nice and was definitely cheap - the only problem I have with it, is that I experience a slight flicker on desktop or when I have a browser up.

If I have a game running (tested with WoW and MoH:pA) it's gone. It's also not flickering during start up. Therefore I exclude a hardware problem with the screen itself.

I am using a Radeon 9800 pro/32bit (changed to 16 and it didn't do squat)/1280x960 (the flickering persists on all resolutions). Playing around with the refresh rate didn't do anything either.

Any ideas? - and thanks in advance! :D

the screen isn't located near something like a TL light's power supply? what kind of cable are you using? can you try a different one?

... or in range of Mrs Sick's battery powered toy, while you act like a geek in the other room? :p

I presume it flickers more when the screen is white? Does the picture size reduce slightly at the same time? If so, it could indicate a problem with the monitor's power supply.

I presume you've tried increasing the refresh rate?

Are there any flourescent or energy saving lightbulbs in the room? Try turning them off, or replacing with tungsten bulbs. It could simply be aliasing from the two light sources.

Another option is to reduce the contrast slightly - this will reduce the demand on the monitor's power supply.

5 points for TDC. It was a nearby surge protector majigg that caused the flickering.

Thanks, guys. :)

Oh... yes... edit for Jup: :twak:. The only power toy Mrs. Sick needs is Mr. Sick! :p
