I have used FZ for months, doubt you could learn me anything about playing a scout.

Btw your the only scout on server which i know of, who actually had points in AoM. How high did you go, 3 or 4 ?

Anyway i dont even need +dex, i did chose saracen, and when im toaed we can compare your 2100 ws to mine which will probaly be around 2250, maybe
i could break the magic 2300 who knows.

erm afaik 1dex gives 4ws. over 400dex is even decreases. so the max you'll get is 2170ish at r10. Knowing you aren't r10 you can't impossible have specced your bow as high as me without fucking up slam/stealth/weapon.
afaik tahn is r8 with cap +dex and he got about 2125ws.

Yes but problem is the benefits of going one way is very little, each dex point
will give 0,15 to 0,18 % xtra damage in less variation, assuming you dont cap allready. That might accumulate to say 15 points of damage on a normal shot,
but its still to little to often make a difference between losing or winning a fight.

The balanced template is in many ways still the best, it simply gives more fun being able to do different things

a saracen scout will hit 2250+.

If i did go 50 bow i think 2300 would be very realistic.

Btw the maxed out NF scouts has seen an increase in damage by 5-6 %,
worth the rp and hazzle i dunno, but thats the numbers.

Here's some details of tests I ran for high end Dex. If you want an excel spreadsheet w/ damage for each shot, let me know.

Executive summary: Lots of people think Dex above 400 is next to useless. This is not correct -- dex above 400 is almost as valuable as dex up to 400.

Based on the results of my tests I'm going with a 7L8 (currently at 7L6) template with Dex5 and FE2. Although it seems that Dex isn't quite as good as FE for pure archery damage for my playstyle, I like the other effects of Dex for me (melee, block, evade).

Now on to the tests...

Summary points.

1. Weaponskill is not directly proportional to Dex. In fact it's not even quite linear. The increase from 369 to 402 Dex increased my WS by 4 per unit of Dex. From 402 to 437 I got 3.77 per unit of Dex. However this is reasonably close to being linear.

2. Many people have conjectured that +Dex has a much smaller effect above 400. In my tests the effect seems to be a bit smaller but not a ton smaller. Indeed, the most surprising aspect of the test, from my perspective, was that returns don't seem to be rapidly diminishing after 400 dex.

3. Earlier in this thread vnimble said that "for every 10 points increase in dex, i find that the average damage goes up by about 1.6%." My findings are very similar. For the increase from 369 to 402 dex I was getting 1.85% more damage per 10 units of dex. For the increase from 402 to 437 I was getting 1.56% more damage per 10 units of Dex, which is pretty similar IMO.

Note that these #'s do not take into account the zero damage due to blocked shots --- I only included non-blocked shots. I wasn't sure how people would want to incorporate blocks, since they're a pretty extreme (and randomly occurring) outlier in the data. The sample sizes here are adequate to get a pretty good idea about average damages conditional on hitting. But they aren't large enough to generate reliable estimates of the effects of blocks (and the # of blocks/evades depends on what targets you select in RvR). However, it's worth noting that more dex did decrease the blocked shot rate.

What still needs to be done: it would be nice to have tests to see if there is some threshold above 400 beyond which more dex has dramatically diminishing returns.

If you all wouldn't spec 50 bow, get as high as much dex etc, and neglect your meelee you would be able to hit a bit harder in meelee, i seen enough factual data to know it's possible if you are skilled(i mean skilled, not claim to be skilled) and you didn't sacriface everything to gain 100 pts on your crit cap. You should try it, as aussie said you have the resources for it( only 3 on this server have those resources fyi.) I won't be able to do it as I'm still lowbie RR

edit: Wanna see some high meelee dmg ? check out Yoda's scout movie (only posted on Critshot/vn this week) high 200 , low 300 every swing with amy i believe (can't see that well due to blurred text) he specced for it , he actually does dmg in meelee.

I get the general feeling from people that they think a melee speced scout is gimped, when a low RR scout like myself can do 150-300 dmg without ToA melee bonuses and +str & dex cap aswell as no relics.

Gimped bow? well I do 300-500 normal, 600-1k crit, with a 5.1 & 5.5spd, again without bonuses.

To say a scout is only good with bow and should only spec bow to perform well is narrow minded, as I've proved to myself, and I hope some opponants that a melee scout is a foe to be treated carefully.
