Scientist Missons

I keep trying to do some missions for a couple of scientists in Mos Eisley, but I can't understand where I'm going wrong.

They keep sending me to retrieve a cage they have had stolen that contains some DNA of some creature. I get to the waypoint and theres some Thug there. I've tried killing him, I've tried not killing him but cannot find any damn cage.

Please help

I've never seen the Converse button come up on the reticule.
