Autumn, Winter and Spring. For me anyway, as of tomorrow I am no longer a student. How should I spend my first days of unemployment? Im guessing its the same as I do now except I'll be getting Job Seekers. There is also scope to become an alcoholic as I will not need my mental faculties for anything until I get a job.

And before anyone moans, I have tried to get jobs. I have been for several interviews for high paying positions, but I just havent got through :(.

Maybe try a job that doesn't pay so High? You're qualified but there are qualified people out there with experience.

Experience >> qualifications :(

I have applied for many types of jobs. Ranging from my specialisation to cleaner jobs, to working in a milkshake shop to applying for one entitled "no experience, no problem" and then being told im not suitably qualified for the position.

Trust me id rather have a job than JSA!

My degree is in Consumer Law (and is acredited by the Trading Standards Institute), but not to be mistaken with a LLB, as it isnt one of those.

Primary job role is in Trading Standards, but due to the nature of the course (carrying out investigations, writing reports, interviewing people etc) it could possibly cross in to other roles.

So I take it you are applying for jobs in your chosen field? Are you not even getting interviews?

This is why I never went to university. Just because you go to university, doesnt guarantee you a high paid job, unless you went to a premier uni. We get literally hundreds of uni leavers sending us letters every year but we just arent interested because they dont have the experience needed. Its a bit of a catch 22 situation for most uni leavers. I did my chartered exams straight from A Levels so basically learnt everything you would learn on a uni course, in the same time scale, whilst earning a good wage and was qualified when the uni people were leaving Uni, who then had to go do their chartered exams for 3 years.

I understand not all careers are the same, but in my case, it just wasnt worth going to uni.

I have had interviews yeh. The degree gives you an edge over your average job public, but if someone who is already doing the job wants to transfer around, then they are more advantaged than I am. It is not a popular job, and departments are getting downsized atm so it will be even harder.

It would be near on impossible to get such a job now without a degree or doing the job already.

Spot on, uni is a waste of time in most fields. I did CIMA while in employment, my employer actually paid for it. I don't do accountancy as such any more due to to the fact I found it wasn't what I wanted to do (it got boring) I am currently studying construction law and construction contracts. I could have obviously done both after leaving uni but it would have wasted 3-4 years that I was quite happy to spend on the bottom rungs of the finance industry gaining experience.

A degree doesn't necessarily mean you will walk into a job in your chosen field you will probably still have to start at the bottom but it will be useful later.

I was aiming to start at the bottom. My degree sets one up for a trainee position which is exactly what I applied for. To become an officer requires a further two years of study and further, statutory, qualifications. In other words, I am three years in to a total of five years needed to become fully qualified.

In this case, a job in the chosen field is exactly what the degree sets one up for. There is simply no other choice but to go for trainee positions within that field, not just because thats how it goes in jobs, but because legally thats how it is for that job. Officer jobs are more rare, because a trainee will eventually become an officer and so there is no need to advertise for them.

i have had many unskilled jobs but for some reason, even these are not helping me to get other unskilled jobs. Ive worked in places from a factory, to call centre to night clubs. Ive sent CVs to temping agencies and they say my experience is not relevant to anything.
