I don't know anyone that has gone for scarification - people think of it as more extreme than tattooing, but if anything it is more subtle.

What's he getting and where?

wont it heal up eventually?
Back when I was in the army some guy got one on his shoulder. They gave him some ointment so the scars would become more visibile while healing. Dunno how it worked out because he got arrested for self mutilation... when in the army you better dont 'fuck' with your body.

I think it can look well but peronally I wouldn't go for it.

Its definitely more discreet than tattoos imo but it would be a bit too painful for me I think!

Hmm... I wonder if I could market the scars on my forearm as scarification?... Not sure what reason I would give for wanting two long straight lines though!

He wants to get both his legs done with Chinese dragon type things.

It involves slicing the skin open, pulling the skin back exposing the meat underneath, then pulling the skin back over the wound.

My mate talked to the dude who does it. The practitioner showed him a video of a client who wanted his tongue altered. First they pierced the whole length of his tongue. Then they slice the tongue open down the middle between the piercings. There was a lot of blood. The guy proudly wears his blood drenched T-shirt as a reminder of the agony he endured to get his tongue altered. He was awake through the entire procedure. They coked him up to the gills beforehand, apparently.

Nasty.

No it doesn't heal up. The cuts are subcutaneous and are designed to scar for life. Apparently for additional effect you re-open the wounds as they are healing.

Aye. Far too extreme for my liking.

How would you top scarification ?

Designer-3rd degree burns ?
Self-expressionist amputation ?

When you get to that type of thing, maybe it becomes a psychiatric concern rather than artistic expressionism.

I don't think you can say its a tribal thing, as such people do it under their own volition, not to be part of a tribe or community. They have a choice. The pigmeys of the tropical forests do it cos thats a mark of manhood (or whatever).
