Thats interesting, this is a different standpoint from the one they took at launch! Its not encouraging trading but its deffinately not discouraging it. Maybe GOA's policys are getting a little dated? Why is DAoC one of the only MMORPGs that actively discourages/bans trading outside of the game? There is no real reason to, games like UO, EQ, AC etc all have huge followings on ebay and the likes. Its become a part of the game, sites like The Gaming Open Market (Stock exchange for online worlds) are a fantastic idea that actually add to a game.

Leave it be I say, just put on a huge disclaimer stating that its all at the owners/buyers risk and be done with it!

Because trading means scammers and scammers means more work for GOA and more questions/emails to answer and GOA dont like to work or answer to questions/emails. If they say its illegal they have no reason to answer, if someone is dumb enough to whine about being scammed. Easy way to take no responsibility, too bad they cant work out a nice tradingsystem instead for those that want to trade. Would just need something like you get the guy you trade withs username, you send your gameinfo and his username to GOA, he does the same, when they got both, they send the info on with new subpasses to both parts, it could prolly be programmed so it happened automatticly, you just fill in info. But would mean less money and more work so wont happen.

In nearly every scam/hacked account issue I get sent it usually comes down to the victim either having a bought account or sharing his account with friends. Each case takes me the best part of a day to investigate properly which is a lot of time to devote to a problem that shouldn't really have happened.
As far as the Mythic system is concerned, it's not an automatic system. It takes human intervention and additional staff to provide that service. We took the decision at launch that we would not support any form of account trading whatsoever.

And that is just the problem here. When you investigate what have happened, which sometimes as you say yourself, takes a good part of the day, this brings no income for the company, just a loss of good working personal.

If you ask the people that are playing the game what they think, i think just a minority would be against controlled trading.

Its a quite common fact that people lend their chars to eachother, and i agree, they have to suit theirselves with what happens to their account.

People are trading and selling now, and will continue to do so. To keep up the experience with the game, people have to get new aspecs of the game. Some wants to do this via trade.

Not everyone likes to PvE, xp their chars, far from all, it is the realm vs. realm aspect of this game that makes it so popular. Still when there are 2500 people online, just a couple of hundreds of these are fighting with the other realms. Yes this is mythics way they want the game and i know you cant do anything about that.

To sum it up:

+
More payed accounts for GoA. and with that, more people playing DAoC
Less invested workinghours in scammed accounts and accountproblems.

-
Requires work to find a suitable routine/system how this could be made.
Roleplayingfactor goes down with ingame-personalities of characters

Maybe its time for the company to ask their customers that pay for this game what they think about it and keep the community updated, if you want to keep the income to the company, when soon other games are released that a major part of the community are awaiting.

May the best game and company win, and i assure you and i hope, it's not going to be the one that cares the least about its subscribers.

my cents
