Say no to glasses, say no to contact lenses...

... say yes to laser eye treatment! What is the current feeling on this subject? Personally I'd love to be rid of glasses and lenses forever, but I'm still not sure about corrective laser surgery.

Meg had it done. For two weeks after he looked like a zombie with big red pacthes round his eyes and had to wear sunglasses all the time.

Ask him about it.

But they were ages ago; I wanted to know how folks feel about it now...

I would if 1) I could afford it, 2) it was a reputable and safe company.

what?

Okay, I'll admit that one of them is at least this year; but it's still 3 months ago or so... Surely it's easier for me to start a thread now and ask how things are going with it, than to dredge up an old one?

edit: thanks Dolly ;)

The point I'm making is that I dont think anythings changed since those threads.

I would go and get it done. There are quite a few very good places to get it done. I think Boots even have a lazer eye surgery clinic

But unfortunately there were a few issues with my eyes which made the surgery a bit risky so I decided against it.

I'm not bothered about having to wear glasses, so I wouldn't spend a large amount of money on eye surgery.

Bet your not nearly totally blind without them though?

can't really see anything properly without glasses or lenses on; would be nice to just wake up and be able to see properly straight away...

Have you ever thought about the contacts you can get that you wear for 30 days straight.

I've just started wearing contacts (1 day things) and I'm loving it. Not having to spend tons of money on a pair of subscription sunglassess and then being worried about losing them. Ah, it's bliss.

I did consider the laser eye surgey using a payment plan, but I have enough coming out each month at the moment to put me off having it done.

Maybe one day. I agree, it'd be nice to wake up and be able to see. However, with laser eye surgery, if it fucks up you're screwed, if a contact lens fucks up, you take it out and replace it.

It would be great never having to wear glasses/lenses.

Wouldnt have to worry about taking them off for a min and some fucker sitting on them ( has happened to me once ), or dickheads saying *can i try em on* and bending em etc.

Would be great to have good vision :-]

I suffer from the *nearly blind without em* thingeh and it is indeed a beach.

imo it's fairly straightforward. I'd get laser surgery, but I got my retina detached in a fight...
The idea of not needing to put my specs on to get up for a pee is quite attractive.

My mother had the surgery a couple of years ago. All seems fine.

Teh doctors have pretty good info on the risks (ie detached retinas, glaucoma etc) so you can take an educated choice. Worth a chat with them anyway.

A company like boots is the best, as if something goes wrong they have bigger pockets, and can be sued for more.

But it is expensive at £1k each eye...

Me too. I think i look better with glasses than without, even though i spend a fortune on them and could afford the surgery. Im not totally blind without them but i can see the attraction for some people.

I say just do it. Sure its not totally risk free, what in life is?

Betting on ECA spending a Friday night wanking off on his own.

My Sister had her eyes done, Mal, a few months ago. She's glad she did it.

Me, I wear contacts when I go out, glasses at home. I'd get 'em lasered if I could though (if I could afford it)

I'd love to be able to get out of bed on a morning and be able to see the time without reaching over for the specs. Never liked wearing them y'see.

I had laser surgery in March (Epiflap) for correcting my mild short sight (-1.0 , and -1.5) for my 40th Birthday pressy. My left eye is now better than 20/20 and my right eye is 20/20. Epiflap is the older & safer (& more painful) of the techniques. I have to say that after having my surgery 2 people at work decided to do it too. They have 20/20 vision now and both think it was well worth doing but I think it wise to look at what you expect from the surgery vs the risk. I found the place i had mine done very informative (Optimax in Bristol) and they made it clear in the literature provided that there were risks involved and this was stressed again in the consultations.

The other thing is that it took a good 3 weeks before my sight recovered and improved. I had seen posts on BW suggesting same day sight. That is really only true for the other type of surgery where they cut deeper into the cornea and reduce the thickness beneath the surface rather than from the top.
I know that my friends got their eyes done cheaper than mine (at the same place) as they have offers from time to time so its worth ringing up and asking about those.

Yep, everything is blurred...for example I'm about 1 foot from my monitor and without my glasses I can just about see the large BW logo top left of the forum....nothing else :)
