really, no matter what those pressuregroups are whining about, they are only relatively small groups. It's very unlikely they stop Top Gear. It attracts too many viewers all around the world. Even if the BBC is pressured in stopping it, Sky will take over, or another commercial.

Love TopGear, and don't want it to stop but I'm not gonna sign a digital petition of one sort or another. They never worked anyway. If ye wanna do something, write a letter to:

When the majority of the team left and went and made 5th gear on channel 5 the show didn't stop... so why would it now?

Think I read somewhere if BBC do pull it, Clarkson said he and the others will just go do a different channel.

Lets be honest, if Clarkson did not present Top Gear, how many would still watch it (and to some extent Hammond and May)

The show did stop dumbass, it was only reinstated after the BBC talked Clarkson into coming back.

Channel 5 had bought the rights to the show after it was cancelled in 2001 but they couldn't use the TopGear name so they invented Fifth Gear. TopGear was not viable with the previous presenting team after Tiff had left for Channel 5 and Clarkson quit, ratings had dropped to under 3 million and that is why it was cancelled. Frankly TopGear without Clarkson just doesn't work, he pushed the show in a new direction and it has made a ton of money for the BBC with worldwide sales. They should leave the format well alone, it works and it earned the show an Emmy.

Yes, Clarkson has been courted by Channel 4 on more than one occasion. They know that if they could create a very similair show to TopGear with Clarkson at the helm and high production values then they are all but guaranteed a domestic audience of 5 million (that is big for Channel 4 btw) and it would also generate alot of cash in worldwide sales to other TV markets. It is a win-win proposition for them, if they could get May and Hamster on board as well then even better.

Regardless though I can't see the BBC messing around with a show that has done so well for them. That said, Clarkson was reported pissed off when the show was shuffled around the shedules 3 times this year for snooker and tennis. He honestly believes that with the piss poor ratings BBC1 is getting for 95% of it's shows that TopGear in a primetime slot could be a real ratings winner, the problem is that the pressure groups are effectively lobbying to stop just that happening. Basically the BBC don't have the balls to take them on so they stick the program on a minority channel and constantly fuck around with it's sheduling.

Clarkson was the guy who made Top Gear great, his humour style worked perfect for ripping into shitty cars.

When May and Hammond joined him they offered another side to the reviewing. I would hate for Hammond to nolonger co-present but May and Clarkson are both very good and they could run it just the 2 if needed.
