I need some advice from RAID-experienced Freddies.

A previous thread detailed trying to set up a SATA RAID 1 configuration on an ancient Asus A7N8X Deluxe (AMD/nForce2) motherboard. So far I have two 1TB SATA drives connected as a RAID 1 set and working, I've created some partitions and copied over from IDE.

I attempted to get the latest versions of everything, I even patched the motherboard BIOS to include the latest SATA RAID controller BIOS, the latest Windows XP driver is installed.

When I boot up, the initial RAID status tells me that the RAID 1 set is in "critical condition", if I enter the SATA controller BIOS screen it tells me that the secondary drive has been "dropped", the options to Rebuild or Correct Conflicts do nothing.

However, once in Windows, using either the RAID controller properties or the GUI utilities provided by the controller manufacturer, they tell me everything is fine, both drives are working and fully in sync, there are no informational, warning or error messages. I believe these are correct as they identify the drives correctly even down to the serial number. I haven't had any noticeable performance problems using the RAID 1 set so far.

My issue is, should I "test" the RAID 1 set by disconnecting the secondary drive, updating the first, then reconnecting the secondary drive and watching it rebuild, I could theoretically do this "hot" in Windows ?

TIA
