Can anyone recommend any good SATA drives? Looking at 200GB-300GB.

Must work with Nforce4 Controller (Some of the Maxtor DiamondMax and MaxIII currently need a Firmware upgrade and don't work out of the box).

Must also be SATA-300.

I'm not after links to the cheapest websites, or the quickest delivery etc, but more peoples experiences and recommended Models/Brands.

Thanks :)

I'd either go for a Samsung Spinpoint, renown for their quietness and their reliability, or Western digital one which are aparently are equally reliable as the Hitachi drives.

Currently got

Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 160GB SATA2 8MB 7200RPM
and
Maxtor MaXLine III 300GB SATA2 16MB 7200RPM

Very happy with both, reliable and fast. Little noise aswell, altho the Hitachi Deskstar makes a meow sound (like a cat) every few hours or so :) Nothing out of the order though

If you got the money to spend
Western Digital Raptor drives are the ones to get atm (twice as fast as a spinpoint)

Don't get a maxtor SATA drive imo.

I've had nothing but bad experiences with my 300gb maxtor +10 drives. Awful.

Next drive i get will probably be one of the 400gb western digys for £146.

This has been fixed ages ago. If you don't trust it, update your BIOS. I run an Asus A8N-E card (nForce4) with 1 WD (Raptor) and 4 Maxtor DiamondMax 10 drives connected to it. (One is connected through an additional SATA controller.) It's a mix of SATA1 and SATA2 drives, and it works like a charm.

300Gb Maxtor DiamondMax 10 drives cost around 100 Euro.

The problem was only logged in Maxtor's support page in March.

Well, like I said, I bought new Maxtor 300GB drives and they work like a charm on my nForce4 Ultra mobo. If you don't trust it, don't buy em. :)

I have a raid-0 configuration with 2 x WD Raptor Sata drives and it works perfectly. Not much noise and the access time and transfer rates are just superb. Think details are 15000 rpm / 4.6 search time (ms)..

Using it with the nforce raid controller which seems to work better than any external or other raid controllers.
