Well, I know these threads pop up all the time, but I'd really appreciate a few comments.
I played DAoC around launch, and had a lvl 30 druid on excalibur. I quit playing about a month or so after the battlegrounds were opened, Thidyanki etc. I play anarchy online at the moment, and have been quite 'into' that for some time. I often find myself missing the RVR element though.
I left DAoC because after being on the AO servers of thousands, I found it difficult to find teams, despite playing relatively prime time hours. Everyone was always RVR'ing, exactly what I wanted to do :p Is it fairly viable to get a team at prime time?
Obviously there have been expansions since I left, but how much do they really impact the game? I can buy them okay, but would there be an immense amount of work to do to 'catch up' with the average?
Anyway, I appreciate any answers you might have :)

immense amount of work to catch up: yes.
get a rvr group at primetime:
when you re lvl 50 and have a class which is needed, you might get a random pickup group now and then :)

To be honest, it depends what guild you join. There's some really friendly guilds that are great to be in, but never do anything, there's some uber guilds that farm the epic mobs and get millions of RPs every week but are full of wankers. Find a guild that lies somewhere between those two and you shouldn't have any problem catching up and having fun.

To be honest, groups are going to be much, much harder to get now compared to when you left the game. The bare facts are:

1. Most people have at least one level 50 and will be busy either RvRing or PvEing for MLs, loot, drops, etc.

2. The /level command allows anyone with a level 50 character to automatically level to 20. Groups under level 20 are very hard to find. Additionally, may people only level from 20-24 to play around in Thid and then re-roll when they cap out.

3. Because the focus of DAOC is RvR for many people they tend to do anything they can to accelerate the levelling process. This includes Power Levelling - grouping with a high level group and leeching XP from their kills, and Buff Botting - soloing with a high level buffing/healing character in tow.

There aren't many people who level in DAOC for fun (a few, but not many) and this can make finding groups harder and life harder for a new player in the groups that you do find.

The best ways to counter all this are to:

a) Make sure you play a lot. Power-gamers have it much easier than casual gamers.
b) Find a friendly guild

Be prepared for it to be a bit of a slog. It's better when you start approaching 50. You're likely to level faster than you did before, but you may not have as much fun doing so.

<wonders where Naetha believes Rigante fit in that list>

Tbh its all about the people you meet. I don't think it's all about guilds. Taking Rigante as example as the previous poster said. It's the people you miss you got to know not the guilds. Guilds change a lot. Once they can be the greatest you're in but if you take a three months break its 99% full of people you don't know. ( Talking about Rigante and Lords of England for example. When I joined them they were only great people, now I already met a lot of stupid people from them )

The expansions make it worth imo. It's new area to explain with your online m8s and to have a lot of fun if you're not carein about how "uber" you can be all the time ( not wasting my time with those people anyway ). Tho I would recommend a "fotm" char as with my fire wiz wasn't able to get into any group because most want to rule the battlefield atm and dont care about fun anymore.

Which brings me back to my first point. Fu** guilds, it's all about the great people you meet and who are up for playing and grouping always when you're on.

All in all it's a _game_ and some people like me still enjoy it a lot even I've been playing ( with several long breaks ) since Europe beta ;) If you call it work like the second poster you might aswell stick to RL.

( Oh and sorry if I didn't get the question correctly... Pretty drunken here after watching football with a few m8s hehe... )

All in all I agree with Pogel.
