Well - topic says it all basically.

Do I make more cash from just selling the raw materials after or do I invest in some thread (being a tailor here) and make dolls or riding crops?

*needs cash to pay the Lurikeen pimps in Tir*

Get 750-800 metal to hinge asterite bars salvaged from df items and sell the hinges to merchant. If you wish to hinge arcanium(gained from si items) you need 950 metal or more.

Since you are a tailor do some armour crafting/weaponcrafting to raise metal very quickly.

studded leather will also raise the metalcrafting too

or just make hinges from the lower end stuff to raise the metalworking.

but if you have a ton of material and you don't mind spending extra for the thread, make bed roll pillows and scarves until everyone in Hibernia has an Uncle Sick Original. (best way to see if its worth it to you, make one and sell it and see if its worth your time... but i'm sure you knew this already, right?)

but honestly, you will still make better money from the hinging than you will from pillows and scarves. I would only suggest them if you have a lot of time on your hands and you have an excess of material.

Best is to do up to 300 with hinges and brackets, then do ac, wc, fletching up to 200-300 each. This way you can raise MW up to 1000 in a few hours and cost about a few gold coins.

Hmmm... I guess getting my metalcrafting up is a good idea.
The ammount of scale armor that drops (and no one can really use) for me is amazing.

How high should my metalcrafting be to salvage high level gear?

About 750-800 metal is fine for the most common salvaged metal(asterite) from df items that gives nice cash.

by selling the materials to merchant you get only half of the price they cost if you buy from merchant.. and by doing trinkets (hinges, dolls, whatever) and selling them you get very close to the merchant price, loss is only a couple %.

however i dont usually bother with cloth / leather trinketing, imo not worth the time, normally selling them to merchant or a crafter who can use them for skilling up. metalworking is where the easy cash come from, like someone said just get metal up to 800 and there you go (enough for DF stuff, many SI zone drops salvage for highest tier material, need at least 900 to get all out of them reliably)

Yes, fantastic link! Hopefully will save me a few gp's in the endless task of trying to raise weaponcraft! Thank you!

Ok I am a LGM tailor too , also to get your wood up I suggest the very very cheap way , I trinketed to 300 , fletched another 500 , weaponcraft for another 200 , this gets you 1000 in wood for an handful of GP's :) Trinketing at first is slow , but worth it imo , for the simple fact it costs next to nothing . Also cloth trinketing , one poster says dont bother , I trinketed a vest the other day , iirc I got 510 Nightshade cloth from it , it cost me 300g for the thread , I got my 300g back plus a 300g profit . Personally I think its worth it :) . Also fletching and weaponcraft give Metal gains .

i did studded armour up to 500 in tailoring(500 metal at that time)
i then when i was a 800 tailor raised my Fletching to 500 to be able to repair doors...that raised my metal working to 800

If you're 1000+ tailor, it's not hard to raise metalworking to 1000+
Then you can salvage the unique drops too for arcanium (verry useful). There's alot unique armor and weapons which isn't really usable when the quality is around 8x%, even if AF is 102 and stats good.
Fletching uses both wood and metalworking, you might wanna give that a go if you wanna do some keep repairing. I got 1000+ woodworking too and it's really useful.

Hib's reinforced doesn't raise Metalworking. Unless there is another studded out there....

And DF has become very interchangeable of late. Which is kind of nice, I'm a crafter :D
