Why would this be sad news for most people? most likely you'll be able to run it on a GF2 nm what they say, but even if that's not the case, a GF3 isn't very expensive nowadays, and neither are GF4 MX cards :)

Theres a link in the guild forums or yussef may post it here says geforce 3 or above i think its mainly nvidia supported but if u use another card u dont get the full benefits of the new textures and lighting etc.

There's a thread in the general forum about it as well, and I doubt it'll be a problem. Of course, if you're sitting with a low end PC, it might be time to upgrade:)

Don't think the memory is the key-issue here. The reason you need a gf3 or gf4 is because the new engine is built on directX 8.x (8.3?), and only gf3/gf4 got those features in their hardware.

In some games you can still run, for example, a gf2 and you'll just not get to see the new and improved features (like reflecting surfaces and shadows) but if mythic sais you WILL need a gf3 or gf4 .. well, then i guess you will need one (or a similar card that support these features by hardware).

It's not that the game would be 'unplayable' from a frames-per-second point of view with a gf2 - it will just not support cards that don't have these new functions/features.

Semi-Qualified guess with a splash of fact

We should be getting all this new stuff for free. Not in an expansion pack.

Well thats the way game developers do things these days they always add packs btw the add on could range from 300mb-1.5gb heh so i dont think most ppl would wanna download that:p

What screenies where? Every article I have seen about Shrouded Isles has been accompanied by pictures of the old engine. Mythic did demonstrate some of the Albion zones with a new engine at the Roundtable event in Washington in July, but didn't release any screenshots or movies. :(

I've never visited your site. I'm merely pointing out that someone posted a link to an interview with Mythic, where two pics of the new engine were dispalyed.

It does look improved though i hope the textures wont slow the fps down.

On the contrary dear .. uhm, Mattshanes :)

According to the article, and others, the game will be much more fluent (uhm, that got to be misspelled? anyways, hope you know what i mean). The current (old) engine got bottlenecks and only reason why it lags is because of the code, not your hardware (well, in most cases anyway).

The new engine is much better looking, aye, but it will also give a more steady FPS-count (no negative FPS in big battles and so on, and no animation-glitches).

Nicer doesn't always mean slower .. but in most cases I would agree

[EDIT] uhm, ops .. wrote dead instead of dear .. same same :) but diffrent

Anyone know if the extra effects (shadows etc) can be turned off? customisable graphics would be much better for us with lower spec machines.

Yeah so I noticed, I saw your 3dmark2001 score in the tech forum. I believe that counts as a nippy little mover :p

I upgrade my graphics card every two years, and a new PC every 4.

I say if you cant afford a new graphics card then you can always buy a PS2 :p

Nice one Mythic. Got a game that shudders along at 2fps on all but supercomputers when most large scale RvR happens.

Your solution?

Dynamic shadow effects and more realistic water. Nice one.

</sarcasm>

I have heard that the new NetImmerse engine is slightly less likely to drag your fps to 0 during large scale RvR. I truly hope so, because all that (essentially useless) eye candy means nothing if this problem still exists.

I think the argument "WE SHOULD GET THIS FOR FREE!!!11" is kinda ungrateful. Look how much Mythic HAVE given us for free, and you wouldnt say that.
