finally getting closer to 50 with my runie. currently he's specc'd in supp and dark (mainly cos before my 6month break it was necessary for grouping)

since i've been out of any kind of rvr for a while, i'm willing to bow to the knowledge of you lot :)

are supp rm's needed these days? or am i better off going another route?

any suggestions welcome

Depends, Suppression are still a good spec with nice spells like the nearsight (nerfed a bit with imunity timer) PBT, debuffs and some semi ok nuke with snare. You will not get into any FOTM group with savages, 3 healers, shaman and skald.
Only way to group with your rm is to figure out some fun group setup like, 2 healers, skald, rm and a few spiritmasters.
In pbaoe groups a supp runemaster is almost a must.
But you can forget pickup groups these days whatever spec you go, mids rvr is ruined.

Anyway, I respeced from full supp to primary RC and rest in suppression (10 sec pbt).
Since the bolts have been fixed RC is realy nice spec and you 2 shot most casters and archers and GTAOE is very good in keep defence / attack.

Supp is Great in PvE and RvR, but these days its hard getting in a RvR group because they mostly focus on tanks...

But still You can make great groups with rm's just hard to get them going very often /:

I wouldn't go that far and say that supp is "great" in RvR.

Supp is worthless because of /assist and archers new toys, and immunity timer on nearsight
Dark suffers from high resists, but you might get a group if only to dmg add the savages..
RC is only good vs casters and underbuffed assassins, or in keeps (not for long, wont be able to log in keeps soon)
Darkcarver is the only self sufficient damage dealing spec, but gets nerfed badly in 1.64/5

With the resist changes in 1.65 darkness might be viable again, but i wouldnt hold my breath

I've been 47d/26s since I made my RM, never really thought of respeccing, still love the spec.
In RvR I mainly /assist nuke, give damage adds to tanks, and the odd root/nearsight here and there.

Suppression, the things I like about Supp are uber PBT, AE DD+Snare which is very nice for helping your support if they can't be CCed any other way and 65% Nearsight. Only downside is that the DD is quite weak, the Snare helps to make up for this if their coming to attack you, but if your /assisting and the target isnt coming to get you then you just want the damage.

Runecarving, this is nice if you want to defend keeps with GTAE, bolts are quite nice now with lower cast times and better hit rate, having the worst DD out of the 3 specs i'd say this spec is more for keep defence imo. Also good if your thinking about teaming up with a Dark RM for the Cold debuff.

I never been interested in Darkcarving spec myself so cba to talk about that :p

Oh and I've been RvRing with my RM in guild groups and early morning pickup groups the past 2/3days, we are still quite viable.
Avg damage is about 310-370, in good guild groups dmg stays around 290-330, of course fights agains't random groups its nothing strange to see most of my DD's doing 400+ dmg :eek:.
The Tanks also like the Damage Add, most duel wielders have said it adds around 25-35 dmg on each hand :)
Although without a good Warrior guarding you and good Healers you are likely to bite the dirt quite fast, just make sure you have end regen :p and dont fight at amg, you will get stealther adds :p

ill just add to what release said that the darkcarver spec atm is great all the best of RC and after the debuff your dd's are higher then a dark RM, and if you get a dark rm to assist you his nukes are REALLY great :)

To bad that the debuff is nerfed in a comming patch /:

I can only draw on my experience from playing a full supp rm to RR4L1 on US mid/igraine. I can say I like it alot. 6 sec PBT might be shredded to pieces by a good amount of assisting tanks but at least it blocks one blow, can be the thing that shifts the scale. 65% nearsight = total caster gimpage, they can now do nil nada nothing for quite some time. Your roots are speced now and will not only stick well but also hold a good long time. Your nukes aren't anything to say haleluljah about but they aren't worthless, and the added snare effect is sweet, can make the peeling job for your tanks alot easier. You are though still covered in absorb 0 cloth and will go down very, very, fast w/o good healers/shield tanks. Just always make sure you have end reg, my life expectancy goes up like a gazillion times if I have it when I play. Ghetto cc for the win!
I can just say I had great fun with my supp runie, though at times I would give loads to have the dmg output of a dark runie.
It's all a matter of how you wanna play. RC is keep take/defense spec, your bolt's hurt but after youve used em both you have 20 secs of doing nearly nothing till you can use em again imo. Darkness is bring down single target real fast spec. Supp is support spec, hang back and root tanks on healers, nearsight caster and /assist nuke if you have the time for best effect.
Just my thoughts on the matter, and my first post on BW :)
