Sarah, 15, from Lincolnshire went to meet the richest man in the world, Microsoft boss Bill Gates.

ayi, ayi. Early on, I have concluded there may well be a hidden agenda by both Bill Gates and young Sarah here. You scratch my back, and i'll scratch yours aye.

sowwy, that was a bit dodgy for me. Bit more of TUG stylee.

Sarah: And finally, does your computer ever crash?

superb question to finish on, absolutely splendidlydumptious.

And I must say the man himself gave a valiant reply.

we want to make a tool that we want to use ourselves and we know from our own use we can make it a lot better and a lot more reliable.

at least he's honest, my opinion has risen a few notches from reading that interview.

...what we've got is people who never would have experienced computing if it hadn't been for the PC approach that we brought to the market.

Good point.

I'm more concerned about the idea of having to talk to my computer. Thats tragic

I didn't see Bill Gates take a hammering in that interview, infact he answered all of the questions very well. Did I miss something?

ar I 've tried using the dictation software with Office XP and Windows Media Player and when you are trying to think of what do say sometimes you say "erm and "er" and they get added in :/

Not to mention there, their, they're :(

No point in having speech recognition til its StarTrek stylee speaking :)

Exactly VC exists but atm its crap. Controlling a computer via voice is a natural progression from the typing/mouse control method although I can't imagine playing FPS games via my voice though.

Duck....duck now you Cunt.......*bang*.....why didn't you duck.....*beep* /crash

I think what Bill means when he says "a machine you can talk to" is making the O/S as user friendly as possible, to the point where you can use it "in plain english". Amazingly (for those of us with half a braincell), Windows is still seen as 'too complicated' for a lot of flids. Yes, even Windows XP. His goal is to make operating systems "instinctive", or as close as possible.

Meaning most of us lot will just spend our time repeatably saying the word "Spam" into the microphone. :)

hehe no Dan, Stu is quite correct. An unenviable task tho. Apple [and Microsoft] have been trying this for yonks yet still have a ways to go imo.

Christ I'd hate to see what they've got planned for a more 'instinctive' approach (a good turn of phrase) ... I mean, I can't bear looking at XP screenshots as it is, down to the ghastly default skin. Its so Fisherprice.

:/

I actually change the theme to Windows Classic.

Aye, so would I, but I daren't install it, just because it looks so thoroughly rancid and kiddie-like to begin with. It seems undermining.

Have to admit it did look too Playcenter like and now I've changed to the classic look it actually looks better than W2K since its smoother.

Fisherprice had its time..

I'm interested in what his 2 kids are gonna get him..
A spare house perhaps or a nice car?

Star Trek style voice would rock though, Dragon Dictate is pretty good at times but it does lag behind after long paragraphs.. Only a few more years though i think considering how far computers have come in the last decade.

I think Someguy said it best when he said that he thought the XP interface was how a modern GUI should look like.

TBH I really like the XP interface. Flame me if you wish :flame:
