I'd like to build a list of RSS feeds.
They dont have to be gaming orientated, just our lifestyle, if you know what I mean.
I know the BBC have one, as does The Register, but would like to build up a list here for everyones entertainment and also another project I'm mulling over.
If in doubt, list it here. I'll edit them together into this initial post so we know where we're at. Assuming anyone can be arsed of course.....

RSS feeds are news feeds that can be pointed freely at another site allow it to display a list of news.

My time news posting is very limited lately with xmas coming (royal mail goes nuts in the run up to xmas) and things going on in my life requiring me to take direct action.

Ted If we use RSS feeds will I still be able to post additional news as normal?

They're a bit more to it than that, its basically a means of wrapping any websites content in a standard form to allow it to be read by a plethora of applications, such as Newsgator and feeddaemon. I use newsgator a lot myself, awesome little app that delivers posts from websites into outlook, where you can treat them as mails and read/fwd them etc.

Some interesting ones i read are:

Isn't all this gonna end up spamming the boards with news stories that barwely anyone looks at anyway?

That is a point. Although I don't post news day in, day out its news a lot of people do read and reply to. If we flood the news page with RSS feeds will people end up just scanning it and in the end ignoring it?

It's usually just an xml file so you basically "read" it. The point is it can be read by anything really. You arent limited to certain technologies.

Hmmm...

I can't seem to "read" it with my web browser...

What would you typically use to read these things then?

Well, no. We've been considering a seperate "other peoples news" forum where this stuff would go, probably into sub-forums to categorise it to keep it organised, whilst retaining our own news forum too.
It seems possible to stop these news feeds counting as posts on the counter and the forum search engine too, so you'd be able to ignore it or use it easily.

Thats the idea anyway. Still toying with the idea, but dont worry, creating pointless annoying spam is an acknowledged problem with this, but I think the latest hacks for vBulletin are good enough to avoid it if implemented well. I dont even know if its technically possible, we have a lot of hacks on here already and they might clash with the RSS hacks. I'll ask Deebs to look at it when he has time once he's back from his shagfest.

Oh, and I also wanted to see what other RSS feeds were out there too :)

The "Sage" extension for Firefox does a nice, simple job. I think it integrates into the Firefox 1.0 Live Bookmarks toy too. - http://sage.mozdev.org/

Alternatively, if you have some incomprehensible objection to Firefox (or if you're an Opera or Safari user, in which case I'll accept your reason as 'comprehensible') then you could try the Mozilla Thunderbird email client, which now has some RSS capability, but probably isn't as good or as some of the dedicated readers mentioned above.

Pointless plugin now Firefox v1 supports using RSS feeds as automatically updating bookmark folders.
