Lo,

Any of you llamafarmers play RPGs? Dungeon Siege is pretty good but I cant get it to work online due to Firewall stuff but I bought Diablo 2 the other day and I'm quite into it :) Spent some time getting my character up to a decent level and a few other peeps gave me a shitload of gold. Makes a difference form all the FPS games I'm quite fond of.

Suprising really seeing as I always used to mock the D&D crowds :)

If anyone is a Diablo 2 fan then perhaps they'd like to get together and have a few games over the next week? GF is off to sweden for a week so I need to fill my time.

Its very good, i'm no RPG expert but I've played a good 20 hours and its quite involving. Very hack and slash. The MP side of things is borkde as its more MS Directplay bollocks. Perhaps they should of sorted that out before a release. Or they may even change the port issues in a new patch.

Oooh Dungeon siege looks nice might have to get that soon.

Been playing a lot of D2: lord of destruction but not online since my experiences with Battlenet haven't been that great, most likely my connection but it's a pisser getting disconnected 10 - 15 mins into a game :(

I've been told DS is on the Diablo hack n slash side of things, I'm an old time pen and paper RPG player so I stick with Baldurs Gate and such, now waiting for the daddy of all CRPGs - Neverwinter Nights.

Right now I'm actually playing a (board) game called Talisman (3rd edition) with my son, he's quite keen on it and only recently want to play it "properly", if anyone remembers this game, especially the 2nd edition, I saw a mint expansion set go on eBay last night for over $200 !

Read readme.rtf in your dungeon siege folder, it explains what ports need opening for multiplayer.

Wow, I've got the second edition kicking round at home somewhere complete with most of the addons, unfortunately it isn't what you would call mint condition. Top class board game though and the only Games Workshop thing I've kept for some reason

Games Workshop made some wonderful Boardgame RPGs, easy to play and not as time consuming as traditional D&D style games. I got the 3rd edition of Talisman, and its expansion sets, just in time, Games Workshop long ago phased everything out apart from Warhammer. Games like Talisman, Hero Quest, Bloodbowl and Space Hulk have gone forever.

GW did a game called Warhammer Quest, as a sort of replacement for Hero Quest using the Warhammer universe and figures, I have that too, its quite good actually although it lacks somewhat. Although I absolutely loved the 2nd edition Talisman, the infuriating "rules anomolies" really ruined the game in the end, the 3rd edition is much better and contains very few rules issues.

As a claim to fame I was one of the first people in the UK to play the expansion set for Talisman, at a games tournament, with the author as umpire !

Still playing Games Workshop stuff:

Warhammer 40K
Battlefleet Gothic
Blood Bowl
Gorka Morka
Epic

(yes I'm sad)
I also play Dungeons and Dragons, plus i have a diablo game on the go at a mates house.

/edit:
Sorry to correct you camazotz, but Blood Bowl is still available, and I think Talisman is as well

Sorry, yes, they still sell Blood Bowl.

Talisman I was told it had been discontinued, at least all the GW stores I have ever been in don't stock it any more, maybe its only available online now, you can still get figures for it tho.

I think it is only available Mail order, they do that a lot these days (Blood Bowl included), very annoying, but at least it is still available.

You don't know if Space Hulk is available, I would really like to get hold of that game someday ?

What I really miss is the very early GW games that were about at the time of Talisman, god I'd love to get my hands on copies of Battlecars, Warrior Knights and a hunt Dracula game (can't remember its name though) just to get all nostalgic.

As far as I can tell, it's not available anymore :(

Ahhh ! Battlecars ... now there was a game we spend many a morning playing < dreams >

Tis a pity GW went all "commercialized", I remember the White Dwarf magazine before it became a mere catalogue for GW products, and watching those ponytailed morons instruct pre-teens on Warhammer in the shops makes me sick, they've removed the fun from it all and made selling the prime consideration.

Steve Jackson seems to do well from his "older" games, why GW chuck away their diamonds I'll never understand.

Aye, so true, the pure GW games seem to rely on people spending oodles of cash to create armies etc.

The offshoot company that supports Blood Bowl, again my memory fails me, isn't too bad. A mate bought Mordheim some time ago and I've played a few games and it isn't too bad.

"Oh look, and enemy! RIGHT CLICK! RIGHT CLICK! RIGHT CLICK! RIGHT CLICK! RIGHT CLICK! RIGHT CLICK! RIGHT CLICK! RIGHT CLICK! RIGHT CLICK! RIGHT CLICK! Yay, he's dead!"

I have only 1 problem with traditional RPG's, they are mostly based in dingy dungeons and the texture artists only use 5 million shades of green and gray. It is quite depressing really.

Most colourful RPG has to go to Sacrifice, although it wasn't that good.
