Router gone all wonky...

Now it works, now it doesn't... "hey, it's back on the list" *connects quickly* "Bleh, it's gone again"

Ok, here's the problem : we lost all wireless functionality, no amount of router reboots fixed it.... so we pressed the magic button "reset to factory defaults".

We changed our settings back to what they were before, and all was well. For 5 minutes.

Now it flickers on an off the wireless list at random.

Most of the time, it's off, with a quick few seconds of being on, before going off again.

It's a Linksys WRT54G router - we have a laptop we can use to access the Router manually using good ol' cable, but otherwise, we can't interface with it at all.

Anyone got any ideas?

Reading release notes for the firmware, it seems they've fixed a bunch of wireless issues. Suppose you're running the latest version, otherwise that would be a good place to start.

My linksys started behaving exactly the same to yours. In the end I gave up with it. It seems they're very sensitive to power fluctuations and the place we were living in did seem to have less than brilliant wiring.

You could try updating the firmware, but if it's having the same problem as ours, I'd consider checking the warranty for a replacement.

Now that's funny, the wiring is pretty god damn awful here too - will have a bash at updating the firmware once everyone has gone to bed.

in which case I'm almost certain it's RIP linksys. You don't have a coin/key electricity meter which leads to the odd power cut when one of your flatmates forgets to check it? Sounds like a bit of a specific question I know, but two people I've chatted to this week have had network widgets die that way.

Makes me glad my PIX and router sit on their own UPS :)

Hmm, it seems to have gone back to working fine for now... I expect in a few weeks we'll have the same drama (Not the first time it's happend).

And nah, we dont have a coin meter thingy
